Rector's Ramblings

I finally broke down and asked Santa for an Apple Watch this year. I must have been good because I found one under the tree on Christmas morning. What is an Apple Watch, you might ask (since some folks don't keep up with such things)? It's a "smart watch" made by Apple, which pairs with my iPhone. It is, first and foremost, a watch, but it can do a lot more. It can give me notifications about incoming phone calls, messages, emails (I don't use this feature - too many!), the weather, your health, and so many other things. It's not as fancy as some folks might think, and yet it's still pretty impressive at the same time. I have enjoyed it for its simplicity and its style. It's not as intrusive as I worried it would be, and has proven itself quite useful in the weeks I've had it.

The Apple Watch is not the only smart watch out there; there are many, ranging from very inexpensive to thousands of dollars. All things being equal, the Apple Watch is moderately priced when compared with other smart watches. Each brand's watches have signature abilities, things that they excel at. I think the Apple Watch is right in the middle, right in the sweet spot, which might account for its top sales position in its market. Over the last seven to eight years, I have become an Apple consumer. In that time, I've had two MacBook laptops, two iPads, four iPhones, and now the Apple Watch. None have disappointed me, apart from the annoying battery issue with the iPhone 6s. But I digress.

Lenten Meditation Series
By John La Boone

" I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word." - Psalm 119:15-16

One week from today on Ash Wednesday, we will revive the Christ Church Lenten Meditation Ministry. It is a series of daily devotionals for Lent created by members of our parish (plus a few special friends of Christ Church). We have modeled this program on the Episcopal Church's popular Forward Day by Day booklets, but we did the whole thing ourselves. Previously, we produced a Lenten meditation series for four years during (2011 - 2014), and now, it's back.

This year's collection is called "A Shared Pilgrimage." Each day the members of Christ Church will receive the listings of the lectionary readings for that day and then a brief reflection - either written or musical - on how those Bible passages spoke to the person making the offering for that day. The day's selection will end with the Episcopal Church's collect for the day. We have the opportunity to travel together on a journey through the Lenten season of prayer, study and introspection by using the series in our daily devotions. Though we will be in different locations while we make use of the meditations, we are still fellow pilgrims traveling together on our journey to Easter Day.

Daily Lenten Prayers
Father Tom will be offering daily text prayers in Lent, through Easter week. Those who would like to receive a daily text message prayer should email their names and cell phone numbers to him at tom@ccfssi.org.

Christ Church Lenten and Easter Brochure
There will be a myriad of classes, studies, worship opportunities and activities available at Christ Church during the Lenten Season. You will find details about these offerings, as well as the worship schedule for Holy Week and Easter in the  comprehensive Lenten and Easter guide  here. This Lenten and Easter brochure is also available on the Christ Church website homepage, here.
