During the school year, Christ Church delivers bags of weekend food to children on free and reduced lunches in several local elementary schools and to homeless teenagers. This outreach is called Backpack Buddies. Hunger is a persistent problem in Glynn County and affects 61%, or more than 8,000 school age children. Though students have access to two meals per day at school during the week, on the weekends, nutritious food can be scarce and even non-existent. Through the Backpack Buddies program, Christ Church provides food bags to 200 children each week during the school year. Join Rev. Tom Purdy, Rabbi Rachel Bregman, and Rev. Alan Dyer as they lead an interfaith journey to the Holy Land with Medji Tours in June 2019. This once in a lifetime trip aims to build relationships across cultural and religious lines in our community by exploring together the shared roots of our traditions in Israel and Jordan. Additionally, this interfaith journey hopes to begin a longer-term process of continuing to form relationships, deepen understanding, and build community across other faith organizations in Glynn County, Georgia upon our return.
