The SBX 2026 conference theme, “Accelerating Performance at the Speed of Innovation,” reflects both the urgency of the moment and the opportunity in front of us. As technologies advance and pressures on the built environment intensify, buildings are being asked to do more: reduce costs, improve resilience, respond to grid needs, support occupant outcomes, and deliver stronger performance in an increasingly complex operating environment. SBX 2026 will create space not just for inspiration, but for debate, problem-solving, and clearer pathways to action.
Each day of the event features a different format, outlined below, designed to provide opportunities for building solutions together through hands-on collaboration in workshops, and inspiring industry-wide action with real-world applications, scalable solutions, and lively discussion and debate.
Early-Bird Deadline Aug 15th – Register Today!

2026 Building Decarbonization Grant Program Now Accepting Applications!
The Building Decarbonization Grant program is open to applications through August 10 and will award up to $4 million for projects at BEPS-covered buildings. These grants will help fund engineering design and capital retrofit projects to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from recipient buildings ahead of BEPS compliance deadlines. As in 2025, OSE will prioritize buildings like nonprofits, affordable housing, senior housing, and other facilities serving frontline communities, as well as buildings whose current energy data show them exceeding upcoming BEPS greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI) targets. However, all buildings covered by BEPS are eligible and encouraged to apply.
All grant information is posted on the Building Emissions Navigator webpage.

Seattle City Light is offering a new no-cost program for commercial and multifamily buildings that are larger than 20,000 square feet. The second cohort of the Commercial Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program will launch in October! A second Multifamily Strategic Energy Management cohort will launch in Spring 2027. This coaching and training program will help commercial and multifamily buildings lower their energy consumption, prepare to meet the requirements of the Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard (WA CBPS) and—for buildings within the city limits of Seattle—the Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standard (Seattle BEPS).
Here are some of the benefits of participating in this program:
-
Learn how to lower operating costs and achieve persistent energy saving and emissions reduction.
- Get on the path to compliance with both the Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard and Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standard.
-
Join dynamic quarterly workshops, offering technical and organizational training and the opportunity to share practices and solutions alongside peers.
- Work with an energy and climate coach for ongoing support throughout the program – up to two years. This includes:
- One site walkthrough to identify energy-saving opportunities and help prioritizing project implementation.
- Assessments and action plan to support integrating energy into business practices.
- Coordination with the organization’s extended energy team to address specific needs and goals.
- The program is free for participants. Your investment is your time spent attending workshops and activities – an investment which should yield energy savings as well as valuable organizational benefits.

A regional non-profit, Literacy Source, offers training in English language skills for employers of non-native speakers or incumbent workers developing their reading, writing, math, or digital literacy skills. The students serve in custodial, M&O, or other front-line positions and can benefit from improved literacy for reading signs, instructions for garbage handling, workplace safety, and some customer communication. The school is running programs at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Port of Seattle and would like to build on their work to serve additional employers in the 4-county area but at this stage is just looking to have a conversation about how other facilities handle this.
To learn more about their employer partnerships, visit https://www.literacysource.org/partnerships.
