Want to have some good old-fashioned fun this Friday? Join Fr. Tom and his family for a Jumbo Shrimp baseball game in Jacksonville! The game starts at 7:05 pm. If you're interested in going, please contact Fr. Tom at [email protected] for all the details.
On Sunday, June 23, at 12:30 pm, all are invited to a brainstorming session, where we'll explore how to help students at Burroughs Molette Elementary School deal with the considerable challenges they face and achieve their academic goals. Get more information here. |
Having been away from the house for three full weeks, we had some "opening" of the house upon our return. When we are going to be away for more than a few days, we turn off water heaters, raise the temperature on the thermostats, and try to unplug anything that's not essential. We also clean out cupboards and the refrigerator, too, making sure that things that could spoil in our absence don't become an issue. Regardless, it is not uncommon to go to the pantry and get something and discover that it has gone stale in the intervening days or weeks.
Surprisingly, we didn't have too much that falls into that category this time around. The miracle of preservatives ensured that several dry foods, well-sealed, survived the time away without incident. There are few things worse, in my culinary world, than getting a cracker out of a box and getting that mushy, stale crumble instead of a flavorful crunch. Sometimes it's enough to make you want to spit it out instead of finishing the chew and swallowing!

Women's Book Study |
The women's study group meets Thursdays at 1:00 pm in the Parish Hall. They will start their next book,
Leaving Church: A Memoir of Faith, by Barbara Brown Taylor on Thursday, June 20. The book is
"...a beautifully crafted memoir . . . . There is a refreshing honesty . . . a slice of courage in a world that too often refuses to admit its vulnerability. . . . Leaving Church does not bash the church. It is a love story about letting go and learning to live with the mystery of what may happen next." -

Icon Writing Workshop - August 26-30 |
The fourth annual icon writing workshop will be held August 26-30
in the Christ Church parish hall. The instructor this year is Kara Nelson. Icon writing is much more than learning to paint an icon, a painting depicting Jesus, Mary, angels or saints. Orthodox Christians consider making icons more a form of prayer than art and believe the writer's hand is guided by God as s/he writes in paint. The group will work from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily, but you may work more or less as your eyes, body and soul are so inclined. Each day will begin with a brief worship and Eucharist filled with instruction about icons. The cost is $375. No previous experience is needed and all materials will be furnished. Just bring a lunch and a willingness to learn. Contact: Mtr. Becky at

Help for Burroughs Molette |

There is an ongoing need to support Burroughs Molette Elementary School (BMES) in Brunswick.
Most of the school's students live in poverty, and this carries over to their academic performance. For several years Glynn Episcopal Ministries (GEM) has sponsored mentors and tutors at the school. In the coming school year, they plan to implement a reward program for individual student's successes and gains. If you are interested in helping to create and/or facilitate such an undertaking, please come to a brainstorming session with Fr. Tom in the parish hall at 12:30 pm on Sunday, June 23. Contact: Fr. Tom at [email protected].
