FAMILY OUTCOMES SURVEY TIME AGAIN!
It is time for the annual surveys to be emailed to the 273 Easter Seals ECI families chosen at random by the HHSC ECI State Office. The families selected to participate have been part of the program for at least 6 months. The purpose of the annual survey is to find out how the ECI program and the services provided to you and your child are helping you.
The survey period for 2025 is anticipated to begin in mid-June (June 16th) and will end July 25, 2025. If you have been selected to participate this year, your service coordinator will let you know before the start date so you will be prepared to look for the survey in your email address.
A LINK FOR 2025 THE HHSC ECI STATE OFFICE WILL EMAIL THE FAMILIES TO THE SURVEY THAT WILL COME FROM THIS ADDRESS:
eci.survey@hhs.texas.gov
It is extremely important for all our families selected to participate to complete the survey. Last year our participation rate was lower than the expected return rate (less than 20%) and we really need to improve our program’s score. We are counting on our families to help us achieve a score of at least the 55% return rate this year or even a higher score!
Thank you in advance for taking the time to necessary to complete the survey!

Easter Seals ECI Team Leaders Attend ASAHP Summit on Healthcare Collaboration
We’re proud to share that Amanda Pepito, SLP, and Rachel Barbosa, EIS, two of our team leaders at Easter Seals ECI, were recently invited to attend the ASAHP (Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions) Summit at UT Health San Antonio. This special event brought together healthcare professionals, educators, private practice owners, and leaders from across the country to discuss ways to improve patient care through better teamwork and communication.
| | | |
Amanda and Rachel were invited for their unique roles in supporting future healthcare providers. Easter Seals ECI serves as a preceptor site, where therapy students—such as future speech-language pathologists (SLPs), occupational therapists (Ots), and physical therapists (PTs)—complete their practicums. Many of these students also choose to begin their professional careers with us. Amanda and Rachel shared their insights on what new graduates need to succeed, how we can support them, and what skills are essential for delivering quality care to children and families.
At the summit, participants sat in groups with like-minded professionals to explore how the healthcare field can work more closely together. Topics included the core competencies of Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC): Values and Ethics, Roles and Responsibilities, Communication, and Teams and Teamwork. Amanda and Rachel also shared how collaboration with other healthcare providers outside the scope of ECI practice—respiratory therapists, for example—help improve services and outcomes for the families we serve. | By attending the ASAHP Summit, Amanda and Rachel brought valuable ideas and energy back to our team. Their experience highlights the importance of communication and collaboration across all areas of healthcare to ensure children and families receive the very best care in our community.

First featured is Amber Ayala, Storytelling Coordinator with Children's Defense Fund Texas.
Hi friends! My name is Amber, and I am the storytelling coordinator for our healthcare coalition, Sick of it, It Texas! We understand how important it is to have the healthcare you need when you need it. That’s why we are looking to work with you to protect and defend Medicaid.
Who? We’re looking for Texans who have benefited from Medicaid - whether it helps you, your children, aging parents or loved ones with disabilities.
What? The opportunity: Lawmakers are proposing $792 billion in Medicaid cuts, threatening healthcare for children, seniors, and people with disabilities. The #SickofitTX campaign is working to stop these cuts, but we need real stories to make an impact. By sharing how Medicaid has helped you or your family, you can protect this program.
How?
- Have a relaxed, no pressure conversation with Amber, our storytelling coordinator, to see if the opportunity feels right
- Share a few sentences about how Medicaid had made a difference in your life
- Decide how you’d like to stay involved and help spread awareness
