Rector's Ramblings

Throughout the month of June we will be studying and reflecting on the concept of Sabbath as presented by Dr. Matthew Sleeth, our Louchery lecturer who was with us last month. At each of the services, we will watch a ten minute video clip of Dr. Sleeth addressing Sabbath. The clips are well done and very insightful. Each week will also include a summary hand-out and questions for reflection. Below is the summary of the first week and the questions to reflect on.

Sabbath is that uncluttered time and space in which we can distance ourselves from our own activities enough to see what God is doing.
~ Eugene Peterson

Throughout history, one of the lessons we appear to need to learn over and over again is that we can't seem to get enough of anything. We live longer than any group of people ever has, and yet we don't seem to have enough time for family and friends. We stand in line for hours on end to purchase a gadget that mesmerizes us, only to stand in line for a newer model a year later.

Our parish may be small, but we are mighty!  Proceeds from the ECW's 2018 Tour of Homes and sales of the Christ Church cookbook have been tallied and the total is an astounding $85,000. This money was recently distributed to a record number of local and regional charities. In fact, all who applied for grants were accepted. The ECW extends its thanks to the extraordinary Christ Church family and to the many dedicated community volunteers who helped with both fundraising projects. Icon Writing Workshop
The icon writing workshop led by Fr. Dave Holland returns to Christ Church  August 26-31 . When the CCF icon writers shared some of their work with the congregation during Lent, everyone was impressed with the serenity and beauty of each piece. Icon writing is much more than learning to paint an icon; a painting depicting Jesus, Mary, angels or saints. Orthodox Christians consider making icons more a form of prayer than art, and believe the writer's hand is guided by God as s/he writes in paint. Each brush stroke is a meditative act. Those who have painted icons describe the experience as deeply spiritual and faith-enhancing. Contact Mtr. Becky at [email protected].

An Interfaith Journey to the Holy Lands: Relationship, Understanding, and Community Harmony

Join Rev. Tom Purdy, Rabbi Rachel Bregman, and Rev. Alan Dyer as they lead an interfaith journey to the Holy Land with Medji Tours in June 2019. This once in a lifetime trip aims to build relationships across cultural and religious lines in our community by exploring together the shared roots of our traditions in Israel and Jordan. Additionally, this interfaith journey hopes to begin a longer-term process of continuing to form relationships, deepen understanding, and build community across other faith organizations in Glynn County, Georgia upon our return. This trip is open to any and all who would like to participate in this holy work. For more information, click here.
