SAHBA Supporting Local Non-Profits

This week, Golf Committee Chair Greg Mohl and Board Member Matt Minder presented a donation to 2024 Chairman's Cup partner, the Stone Canyon Foundation. The Foundation supports non-profit organizations that positively impact education success, quality of life, and development of youth in need within the greater Tucson area such as Youth on Their Own and Girls Scouts of Arizona. SAHBA was excited to support and collaborate with the Stone Canyon Foundation for the Chairman's Cup, as both organizations share a common goal of enriching the community and empowering our youth.

We look forward to another Chairman's Cup in 2025!

UA's Breakfast with the Economist

SAHBA sponsored and attended Eller College of Management's Breakfast with the Economists, where George Hammond and Dr. Sharon Megdal provided insights on Arizona's economic and water resource future. The Arizona economy showed solid gains in 2023, with rising population, jobs, and income despite growing concerns about water sustainability. However, housing affordability in Tucson decreased, with only 38.2% of homes affordable to families earning the median income.

Tucson Approves Worker Heat Protection Ordinance

At the last Tucson Mayor and City Council meeting, a Worker Heat Protection Ordinance was approved to enhance the city's ability to manage extreme heat and improve resilience. The ordinance applies to City employees and any contractor whose employees and contract workers perform work in an outdoor environment under a City contract. Click here for the ordinance.

Mayor and Council Adopts Final Budget for Next Fiscal Year

On June 4, Tucson's Mayor and Council approved City Manager Michael Ortega's $2.39 billion budget for the 2024/2025 fiscal year, his last meeting as City Manager. The budget emphasizes long-term financial sustainability, strategic investment, and service delivery for Tucson residents.

SAHBA Joins TAR and AMA Reps to Discuss Housing with AZPM

David Godlewski joined representatives of the Tucson Association of Realtors and the Arizona Multi-Housing Association for an interview with Arizona Public Media. This edition of ‘The Buzz: Housing Roundtable Discussions’ focused on the issue of homelessness and affordability. The SAHBA, TAR, and AMA portion highlighted factors contributing to rising home prices and rental rates including material costs and government regulations. Click here for details.

Shape Your Transportation Future Survey

Southern Arizona is growing and effective regional planning to improve long-term quality of life is vital. Pima Association of Governments (PAG) has launched the “Shape Your Transportation Future” survey, which allows community members to share their transportation priorities and experiences, and where they believe PAG should apply its transportation funding resources for the next 30 years. Results will inform the development of the 2055 Regional Mobility and Accessibility Plan, or RMAP which is a long-range transportation plan used to secure millions of dollars in federal funding for essential transportation improvements in the region.

Take Survey Here

The survey is less than 10 minutes and is available in English and Spanish.

Community Spotlight

Community Investment Corporation's MySchoolsTucson Resource

One of the most important decisions as a parent is to choose where your kids will go to school and with so many options in Tucson, some may not know how to begin the search. Their "MySchoolsTucson" website is an online school locator that includes all K-12 Pima County schools and important resources to help parents select a school for their child.
