IN THIS ISSUE
EC101 began again this evening, but it's not too late to sign up, if you're interested in this highly informative class. Get the details you need to join the group here.

Daylight Savings Time starts this Sunday, March 11th, at 2:00 am! Don't forget to "spring" forward when you set your clock!

Rector's Ramblings

In the Wednesday Men's group, we've been reading Richard Rohr's daily Lenten meditations. As we are wont to do, we often stray a bit as one topic of conversation springboards us into another. This week, the unexpected but fruitful conversation evolved around what happens to us when we die. The meditation for one of the previous days had tackled the concept of continuity between this world and the next.

The scripture passage that Rohr was reflecting on was the one about Lazarus and the rich man.  You'll remember that in the story, after both have died, Lazarus is in heaven in Abraham's bosom, and the rich man is in hell in torment. To his immortal chagrin, the rich man learns that his inability to cross the chasm of compassion in this world means it won't be crossed in the next. In the story, and in Rohr's reflection, it's a cautionary tale. As such, our conversation drifted easily into understanding how God redeems and forgives us and how that equates to our eternal disposition.

Worship

Join Us for Special Music This Sunday

The Great Hall liturgy this Sunday will have special music. The handbell choir will be premiering a piece based on the hymn Dear Lord and Father of Mankind that Kathleen Turner arranged while on Sabbatical. The piece scored for Handbells and Cello is dedicated with love to Elizabeth Freyer. The Adult choir, Choristers, and Trebles will also be in attendance. The sequence hymn is Shall We Gather at the River. This Sunday is Lent IV and we will be remembering those dear to us that we have recently lost, so please come and be a part of this special liturgy.

Christ Church Lenten and Easter Schedule
There are a myriad of classes, studies, worship opportunities and activities available at Christ Church during the Lenten Season. You will find details about these offerings, as well as the worship schedule for Holy Week and Easter in the  comprehensive Lenten and Easter guide  here. This Lenten and Easter brochure is also available on the Christ Church website homepage, here.

Easter Lilies
Remember a loved one at Easter when you order a lily to decorate the altar on Easter morning. Send the name(s) and a check for $30 per lily to Ethel Horton, 402 Palm Court, SSI, 31522. Make checks payable to "Christ Church Altar Guild." Please make your order by March 28.

Formation

EC101EC101
Episcopal Church 101 is a six-week study for anyone wishing to know more about the Episcopal Church, either in preparation for being confirmed, received or reaffirmed (wonder what the difference is among those?) or simply to answer those "why do we" questions. The class meets on Wednesdays, at 5:30 pm in the Parish Hall and will conclude on April 11th. If you are interested in joining this group or would like to know more, please contact Mtr. Becky at [email protected] or call the church office at 912-638-8683.

Adult Sunday Morning Class
Dr. Bob Brown's  adult Sunday morning class continues  its discussion of study of the New Testament using The Great Courses lecture series. Everyone is welcome! Classes take place in the Parish House each Sunday from 10:30 until 11:15 am. For more information, contact Bob at [email protected].

Final Chapters

Our clergy is leading Final Chapters, a five week course centered on end of life preparation. On March 8th, at 2:00 pm, Mtr. Becky will lead a detailed discussion about funeral planning and will provide funeral planning guides to participants.  Please contact Mtr. Becky at [email protected], if you are interested in joining this group.

The Art of Lent

A weekly art talk and reflection featuring guest artists will take place throughout Lent. Father Tom will host. Come to the Parish Hall each Wednesday at 1:00 pm. A simple lunch will be served. The next session is March 14th, when the stained glass of Christ Church and St. Ignatius will be the focus of the discussion. Please contact Fr. Tom at [email protected] or Mtr. Becky at [email protected] for more information about this Lenten art series.

Women's Study Group
Join the Women's Study Group on Tuesdays, at 11:30 am, for their study of 24/6, written by Matthew Sleeth. The book is centered on "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy." In today's 24/7 lifestyle, remembering to rest can be difficult. During this season of Lent we will focus on centering our lives on Christ and taking our Sabbath intentionally. Contact Mtr. Ashton at [email protected] if you are interested in joining the group.

A Question of Identity RetreatWhoAmIRetreat

On Saturday, March 10, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, author Randy Siegel will discuss how answering the question, "Who am I?" brings power, purpose and peace into our lives. Randy writes, "Our spiritual and psychological health rests in the question of identity. Regardless of whether we call it ego, personality, or persona, we need a strong one if we are going to navigate the world and enjoy a successful life. At the same time, if this is the only way we see ourselves, we will never be truly fulfilled. There's something deep within that longs to return to our essence, or divine self, and be in union, reunion, and communion with the Divine."

Using poetry, prayer, music, dialog, and journaling, participants will explore where they are in their lives and examine a number of career, life, and spiritual tools to assist in the journey, including:
· Proven four-step process to package, present, and promote their best selves for success.

· Means for tuning into their "internal GPS" to help more intentionally navigate their lives.

· Three-tiered psychological spiritual system to help claim their Divine DNA and become the person they were born to be.

The cost of the workshop is $25 and includes materials and a light lunch. Please sign up for this event by contacting Mtr. Becky at [email protected] by Friday, March 9th. (We need headcount to order the lunches.)

ECW Scholarship
A newly established scholarship fund created by the Christ Church Frederica Episcopal Church Women is being inaugurated this year. Annually, the Christ Church Frederica ECW Scholarship Fund for Women will provide $2,500 to a female high school graduate pursuing a degree through an academic or technical college or university. The student must be of the Episcopal faith and hale from Glynn or McIntosh County.

"Many of our Christ Church women have, over the last fifteen years, donated to this wonderful effort to establish a scholarship program for our young ladies. The fruit of our gifts will now benefit many young women with their future educational goals. In establishing this scholarship we honor those who came before us and saw this as just a dream... but now it is a reality and we could not be more pleased," noted Jane Watson, President, Episcopal Church Women.

Applications may be accessed via the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation website here  and are due no later than April 21, 2018. Candidates will be screened and interviewed by a scholarship committee and the award will be made in May.

Docents and Greeters Needed in Christ Church!

Have you ever visited a historic site or beautiful landmark and found it closed? It's supposed to be open but on the day you come it's closed! Sadly, visitors to Christ Church are traveling long distances to experience our beautiful history only to find our doors closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, because we don't have volunteers to welcome them. We need friendly parishioners on a short-term basis Tuesdays or Wednesdays,  to greet visitors until we are able to recruit and train docents. Call Sharon in the church office, at 912-638-8683, if you would like to volunteer short-term or need more information. If you are interested in joining our docent team, we are currently seeking volunteers to serve once a month in afternoon shifts from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. There is a training session before docents embark on an enjoyable and rewarding opportunity to share the remarkable story of our church. For more information please contact Fred Collins at [email protected].

Cross Collection on Display at Epworth
The Arthur J. Moore Methodist Museum at Epworth-by-the-Sea Conference and Retreat Center, is happy to announce a special exhibition in the Atrium of the Museum which will be on display from Ash Wednesday  to Easter Sunday , the whole season of Lent.

The exhibition is the cross collection of one of our own, the Rev. Dr. Robert W. (Bob) Brown. The crosses represent a collection gathered over a 40-year ministerial career and come from all over the world. They are made of a huge variety of materials and reflect many different interpretations of one of our most sacred symbols.  Though more than 90% of the crosses have been gifts, no cross has ever been repeated and never has the entire collection been on display at one time.  Dr. Brown is particularly pleased to offer this exhibition for the enjoyment of the members of Christ Church, Frederica.  May the cross, as a symbol, remind us of sacrifice and commitment and, especially, of the power of love.

Up with People!
Up with People is coming to Glynn County, March 26 to April 2, 2018. Up with People was founded on the principle of using music as a means to communicate with and inspire people. In each city we visit, Up with People cast members perform a vibrant and inspiring musical stage show that brings the community together to enjoy a night of entertainment while sparking people to take action in meeting the needs of their communities, countries and the world. It's fun for the whole family and an experience you'll never forget!

The Advance Team is looking for host families for the cast members. Host families provide a place to sleep, limited transportation and some meals. While the cast is in town they will be getting involved volunteering in the local community. You can learn more about the 100 member cast from 20 different countries  here. If you have any questions, please contact Ashton at  [email protected] about her experience while traveling with Up with People.

An Interfaith Journey to the Holy Lands: Relationship, Understanding, and Community Harmony

Join Rabbi Rachel Bregman, Rev. Alan Dyer, and Rev. Tom Purdy as they lead an interfaith journey to the Holy Land with Medji Tours in June 2019. This once in a lifetime trip aims to build relationships across cultural and religious lines in our community by exploring together the shared roots of our traditions in Israel and Jordan. Additionally, this interfaith journey hopes to begin a longer-term process of continuing to form relationships, deepen understanding, and build community across other faith organizations in Glynn County, Georgia upon our return. This trip is open to any and all who would like to participate in this holy work. For more information, click here.
