I don't have a lot to reflect on after 48 hours in Jerusalem. Actually, that is inaccurate. I have very much to reflect on, yet I have not had a lot of downtime for that reflection. Our first two days of this pilgrimage to the Holy Land have been a whirlwind. At 6:30 am local time yesterday, we set off to begin our trip by visiting the West Wall and the tunnels beneath it. We spent the entire day in the Old City, exploring the area, and just a small amount of the historical and religious richness it holds.

 

We were able to walk the Via Dolorosa, which we know as The Way of the Cross, the historic route that pilgrims have walked for centuries, that Jesus is believed to have walked from his trial to his crucifixion; the same route that marks the 14 Stations of the Cross we still pray each Good Friday. Within a couple of hours, we went from the holiest of sites in Judaism to the holiest of sites in Christianity, as we visited the church of the Holy Sepulcher, which contains within its walls both the traditional site of Christ's crucifixion and Christ's burial. There are chapels built over both sites within the larger church and simply to be in the vicinity is awe-inspiring.

The Men's Discussion Group meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am . For the month of June, they will be meeting at Gordon Zeese's home, at 1 Tee Lane, on St. Simons Island. They will begin a discussion of American Nations: A History of the 11 Rival Regional Cultures of North America, by Colin Woodard, at the beginning of the month.  The group will continue to meet during the summer and newcomers are always welcome.  For more information, please contact Te Turner at [email protected] .

We're very excited about this year's Vacation Bible School program and will be meeting with VBS volunteers on Saturday, June 1, beginning at 9:00 am, to help make it an enriching, spiritually uplifting, and just plain fun experience for all who will be participating. Please bring your shelf-stable food donations for the St. Athanasius Feed My Sheep Food Pantry to St. Ignatius and Christ Church this weekend or deliver them to the grocery cart in the Parish Hall throughout the week. The pantry especially needs canned corn, canned diced tomatoes and canned fruit. Full size boxes of cereal are always welcome, too. 

This summer, we are collecting children's books for youngsters living in Glynn County. Please bring new or gently used children's book for ages Pre-K through 6th Grade to the church office in the Parish Hall, during regular business hours on weekdays, or on Sundays, from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. It is with tremendous excitement that the Christ Church ECW announces a very generous gift of $70,000 to local and regional charities! The Christ Church ECW is happy to announce the winner of this year's ECW Scholarship, Ma'Kayla Hulett. Ma'Kayla graduated with honors from Glynn Academy in 2018 and is currently attending Georgia Southern University, where she is majoring in Logistics and Intermodal Transportation. Ma'Kayla has continued her hard work and dedication to learning in college, making the Dean's List twice already. When she's home, she's a faithful member of St. Athanasius Episcopal Church in Brunswick, where she serves as an usher, a lector and is active in the youth program. Ma'Kayla says that her faith guides her and influences her choices in life. No matter the challenges she faces, Ma'kayla remembers that, "God is beside me and everything is going to be all right." We salute this fine young lady and wish her all the best in her academic pursuits and in her life!

OMG Meeting on Friday, June 7

The Christ Church Live Poets meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 4:00 pm and will be meeting next on June 4, in the Parish Hall.
