Today I have flown to New York City for the meeting of the board of Friends of Canterbury Cathedral, US (FOCCUS). I think I've rambled about this in the past, but it's been awhile. FOCCUS' mission is to support the mother church of Anglicanism, particularly the Canterbury Scholars Program of which I am an alumnus.
The Scholars Program is a unique opportunity within the Anglican Communion to gather Anglican seminarians and new priests from all over the globe. I attended the Program in its third year, and that was fifteen years ago. Bringing together new and future clergy in such a way helps incarnate the beauty and gift of the Anglican Compass Rose, this symbol of our Communion that reminds us that our brother and sisters of the prayer book are found in every corner of the world. Such connections are a gift and a rarity within much of Christendom.

| Bluegrass Eucharist and Church Picnic |
 Mark your calendar for the annual Christ Church picnic, which will take place on Sunday, May 19, at Honey Creek. We'll have a traditional Bluegrass Eucharist, featuring
Marshgrass in the chapel,
followed by lunch on the grounds. This is a wonderful day of revival and renewal and all are encouraged to come!

| Music in Liturgies |
The month of May will highlight choirs of all ages.
On May 12 in the 9:15 Liturgy Junior Treble Hadley Kneller will offer her first solo, In Heavenly Love Abiding by John Beck. The Christ Church Handbell Choir will join forces with the Adult Choir and Brass for a glorious offering of Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (to the German hymn tune Lobe den Herren). The Handbell Choir will play a medley of well known hymn tunes during communion.
On May 19 Marsh Grass will lead our Bluegrass Liturgy at Honey Creek. Bring your bluegrass voices and let's raise the roof! On May 26 the music will honor our great cloud of witnesses and lift up the Gospel to the Glory of God.

Chi Rho Coming to Christ Church
|
 Wake Forest University's Award-Winning Men's Christian A Cappella Group
Chi Rho is Wake Forest's all-male Christian a cappella group and seeks to spread Christ's love through its music. Founded in 1992 by a group of Wake Forest students that saw a need for a music-based ministry on campus, the group has recorded more than a dozen albums over the past 26 years and has toured throughout the United States. Chi Rho has also toured internationally in France and in a missionary role in Zambia.
The group's name, which is pronounced "Kai Ro," is formed by the first two letters of the Greek spelling of Christ. While these letters appear on Wake Forest University's seal, they are most important because they mean that wherever the group goes, they will literally bear the name of Christ.
Chi Rho is founded upon the tenets of music, ministry and brotherhood, three facets of the group which are treated as equal in their importance. But above all, Chi Rho seeks to spread the love of God to as many people as it can, in as many ways possible.
Chi Rho will be joining us in worship at St. Ignatius this Saturday at 5:30 pm. They will also have a special lunch performance in the Christ Church Parish Hall on Wednesday, May 15th. Please support them by coming to lunch on Wednesday and hearing their performance at 1:00 pm. They will have CD's available for purchase.

Camp Kanuga returns to Christ Church this summer. This full day camp provides some of the same educational and growth activities enjoyed at Camp Kanuga's parent site in Hendersonville, NC. | Recognizing Street Beat Graduates |
 Street Beat
is a Safe Harbor program that supports homeless teens in Glynn County. Christ Church ministers to these youth through our hunger outreach program.
We are now collecting cards and donations for gift cards for three Street Beat graduates, Jaylen Singleton, Jodarius Demery and Azavian Evans, who will soon graduate from high school. You may congratulate these young men by bringing signed graduation cards and contributions towards gift cards to the church office before May 20, for their graduation party on May 21.

| Snowbirds Flying ... Buses Arriving |
 With the arrival of Spring, our Afternoon Docent Team ranks are beginning to thin as some of our members fly north for the summer and others enjoy travel plans. At the same time, busloads of visitors are arriving in the afternoons, eager to learn about our historic church. We could use some help!
On Friday, May 24th a docent orientation session led by Susan Garrett and Glenn Queener will be held at the church from 11 am-1 pm. Lunch will be provided. You will meet some of our current docent team and learn how we enjoy sharing the Christ Church story with visitors from around the world. Attendees will receive a packet of information on the church building, history and docent duties to review, and be assigned someone to "shadow" during one or more shifts before flying solo.
We are also looking for "greeters" to provide a second pair of hands on busy afternoons - typically mid-week. The docent on hand would provide the history and answer questions; your job would be to direct traffic and help with cookbook and history pamphlet sales. If this job is of interest to you, we can put you to work immediately. Please contact Susan Garrett, but also plan to attend the orientation session.

 The Frederick Cousins Guild will have their End-of-the-Year Celebration on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 6:00 pm.  We're happy to announce that the church has recently completed the transition to a new database, called Realm. Realm is more than a database. It's a comprehensive online ministry tool designed for real time connection. It helps Christ Church connect with you and you connect with us. It also allows you to manage your personal information, (and who is allowed to see it), control your giving, and keep in touch with the groups that matter to you. Our new Christ Church Gift Shop, (inside the Parish House, across from the reception area), is now open on Sundays, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. Come browse the assortment of unique items available, including hand-made prayer beads and our new history book. We'll also be adding new and seasonal items each week, so come by and check out the inventory. If you would like to make a purchase, cash, checks and credit cards are acceptable.

From time to time we are asked if there are things the Church can use that might be given as a memorial for a loved one or in thanksgiving for a blessing.
