Rector's Ramblings

One morning around the start of autumn, during our morning drive to school, my daughter relayed a conversation her friends were having about the crisp fall mornings that came with the change of season. I almost wrecked the car. The temperature that morning? Seventy-five or so degrees with typical humidity. Crisp? Where have I gone wrong?!? Crisp fall mornings are those that come with frost and enough chill in the air to sting one's lungs, even if only for a second. Crisp mornings make us go back in the house for a heavier sweater before we make it to the car. We don't have any fall mornings like those here, in my experience. If we're lucky, we get some crisp weather in winter, though.  READ MORE HERE

Worship

Worship Schedule
Join us for weekly worship at Christ Church. Regular weekend worship services take place on Saturdays at 5:30 pm at St. Ignatius Chapel, on Demere Road, and on Sundays at 8:00 am, 9:15 am (church), 9:15 am (parish hall) and 11:15 am at Christ Church, Frederica.  Kidurgy, our Liturgy of the Word for younger children, takes place during the 9:15 am worship service at Christ Church. On Wednesdays, at 12:00 pm, a Healing service is held at Christ Church and at 6:30 pm, X Church takes place.
All Saints Reflection from Mother Ashton
On All Saints Sunday, I had the privilege of serving at my home parish in Ormond Beach, Florida. St. James Episcopal Church sent both my father and me to seminary. This All Saints Sunday rejuvenated my spirit. I was privileged to baptize my nephew and act as my niece's confirmation sponsor. I was honored to serve next to my father, at the altar where my grandfather, father, and I have all celebrated, and then serve the Body of Christ to my family and friends. I came home energized for ministry at Christ Church and was reminded of the significance of being sealed as Christ's own forever.  It was an amazing day and so very special for me. I pray that my father and I can serve together again soon. I loved every minute of it!
Choir Commissioning
The Christ Church choirs will be recognized during a choir commissioning ceremony, on Sunday, November 17 at 9:15 am. This will be an inspiring morning of music, so don't miss it. We will also be welcoming those who are new to Christ Church with a special newcomers liturgy at the 9:15 am service.

Backpack Buddies - Next Packing on Nov. 13

The Christ Church Backpack Buddy program is feeding 500+ students this school year and we need all the help we can get on packing days! Please join us on the line on Wednesday, November 13 , at 10:00 am, in the Parish Hall and help us get all the bags packed! Save the dates for December 4 and 18, too!

For more information, please contact Susan Shipman at [email protected]
Thanksgiving Basket Collection
The annual collection of food for Thanksgiving food baskets for twenty-three needy families in our community begins November 16-17 and will continue through November 23-24. The final date for food collection is November 26, by 9:00 am. Chair Jeannie Wade asks that you bring non-perishable food items to services at St. Ignatius and Christ Church. Monetary donations are welcome, too, as they will help to purchase a turkey for each basket. Make your check to Christ Church, Frederica and note that it is for Thanksgiving baskets. Checks may be placed in the collection at each service. Food items may also be brought to the Parish Hall on weekdays. On Tuesday, November 26, at 9:00 am, you are invited to help assemble the food baskets in the Parish Hall. Contact Jeannie Wade at  [email protected]  to get more information or to volunteer to help collect, assemble or deliver the food baskets.
Christmas at Sea
It's hard to believe, but Christmas is just 7 weeks away! As much as we hate to rush the season, it's important to start thinking of those who need help and support during the holidays.

One group with whom Christ Church actively collaborates, is the International Seafarers Center, which ministers to seafarers from all over the planet. Most of us are blessed with family and friends during the holidays, but Christmas can be a lonely time for seafarers. Every year during the season of Christmas, the International Seafarers' Center spreads the love of Christ through their Christmas at Sea program. About 1500 seafarers travel through the port of Brunswick from Thanksgiving to January 7th and the Center hopes to give every seafarer a Christmas present.

If you'd like to be part of this ministry, it's as easy as filling a shoebox with 12 - 15 item from the list found  here, wrapping the box in holiday paper and bringing it to either the church office in the Parish Hall, or to the International Seafarers Center, at 307 Newcastle Street in Brunswick.

Christ Church Comforters Watch Caps
In addition to their many other projects, the Christ Church Comforters have been creating beautiful knit caps in various sizes. If you are planning to make a box for the International Seafarers Center - Christmas at Sea program, knit caps in adults sizes, made by the Comforters, will be available for you to add to your box. If you'd like a cap, please contact Mtr. Ashton at [email protected] or Gay Barron at [email protected].
Help Children at Burroughs Molette Whenever You Buy Groceries at Harris Teeter
You can help Burroughs Molette Elementary School every time you shop at Harris Teeter. Simply tell your cashier (during check-out) that you want Burroughs Molette's account number (6700) linked to your Harris Teeter VIC card. Once the account number is linked, every time you shop during the program, 2% of your Harris Teeter brand purchases will be contributed by Harris Teeter to the school. It's that easy!
Help Needed In Martha's GuildMarthasGuild
Christ Church friends --Martha's Guild needs you! We are a small service group, dedicated to preparing and serving food at receptions for the bereaved families and friends of those whose funerals are held at Christ Church. Over time, our small band has become a little too small, so we are eagerly recruiting new members now. It is so easy and so rewarding. Teams are called on for two months at a time and asked to bring finger foods like tea sandwiches, deviled eggs, fruit or cheese trays, cookies, or you may tell us what you like to make. If you would like to serve your church family in this way, please contact Angie Burns at 912-638-2717 or Mtr. Ashton at  [email protected]
The ECW Tour of Homes Needs You Now!
Last spring, 29 agencies primarily serving women and children in need, benefited from ECW's Annual Tour of Homes, and from the sale of our Christ Church Cookbook. This fall, we again are asking for generous donations that will help in so many lives. We look to our church family, and beyond, to make it happen. If you'd like to be a patron or volunteer on Tour Day, March 21, please contact Susie Henning at  [email protected]), or Tami Black at  [email protected], or visit christchurchtourofhomes.org.

A Message from the Live Poets Society
The Live Poets have not met this fall because we have lost so many participants, but we want to get started again after Christmas, with new folks and new voices. We meet just once a month, on the first Tuesday of each month, at 4:00 pm, to listen and to read our own attempted work. Poetry offers a wonderful way to express oneself and many find it therapeutic and deeply rewarding. Please join us! For more information, contact Angie Burns at 912-638-2717.

Celebrating our Friends at Christ Church

Millie Wilcox celebrated with a surprise 90th birthday party this past Friday, November 1, at The Study (shhh...it's a speakeasy) behind Reid's Apothecary. Happy birthday, Millie!

Ben Galland's artistry was featured at a pop-up installation of his large-scale photography on Friday, November 1. The show,  Georgia Has a Coast , took place in the historic hangar at the Leotis Building, in downtown Brunswick and was sponsored by The Art House.

Maggie Jenkins is one very busy Glynn Academy sophomore. In addition to being an active member of the Christ Church youth group, an acolyte and choir member, she is also a Martial Arts master! Competing in the World Martial Arts Games in London this past October, she earned medals in numerous events. Congratulations Maggie!
