Please remember to bring your non-perishable food donations for the St. Athanasius Food Pantry this weekend. You may leave them in the Christ Church Parish House lobby or at St. Ignatius Chapel. Canned vegetables, fruits and dinners would be most appreciated.

Rector's Ramblings

The Rector done been meddlin' again. At least that's what it feels like to some, having seen our historic baptismal font temporarily located just inside the front door of Christ Church. It is there for the moment, but will be returning to the baptistry after All Saints Sunday. Its move to a central location in the congregation was both practical and theological, with the latter driving the former. With a baptism two Sundays ago, and a request to use the historic font, I found myself in a quandary; our font's location is not in keeping with the baptismal theology of the last fifty years (and arguably longer). I wanted to use the font - the symbolic value of our font is superior to a table and bowl - but I couldn't bring myself to use it in its place in the baptistry (more on that to come). Ultimately, I realized we could have both, if the font moved. Which is not so radical an idea as it sounds. Regardless, it provides an impetus to spend some time on our baptismal identity and how we strengthen it through our regular practices. READ MORE HERE

All Saints Sunday
Join us on November 3, for All Saints Sunday worship. This is a time of reflection and celebration, as we remember those who have died.
The Rev. Joshua Varner, the Canon Missioner for Children in the Diocese of Georgia, will be our guest musician for the 9:15 and 11:15 am services in the church. The Rev. Varner began his ministry as Assistant to the Rector at St. Luke's in Durham, NC. Then he served Holy Trinity in Greensboro, NC, for seven years. In both parishes, Joshua had particular responsibility for ministry with children, youth, and their families. In the Diocese of Georgia, Varner has served as a spiritual director to summer camp sessions and led youth mission trips both in the U.S. and to our Companion Diocese of the Dominican Republic.  He met his wife, Elizabeth, at Sewanee. Elizabeth grew up at Trinity Episcopal Church in Statesboro, Georgia and was active in the youth programs of the Diocese of Georgia. They have two children, Benjamin and Laura.  Joshua is well known among clergy and the Honey Creek community for his outstanding musical talent in dulcimer, guitar, and singing, just to name a few.
Choir Commissioning
The Christ Church Choirs will be recognized during Choir Commissioning, on Sunday, November 17, at 9:15 am. Please join us for a special morning of music.

Empty Bowl Fundraiser for Second Harvest
Make your lunch or dinner plans for Tuesday, November 5, for the 2019 Fall Empty Bowl Fundraiser, benefitting America's Second Harvest.  This year, there will be two lunch servings at 11:30 am and 1:00 pm at the Boom Boom Room, on Newcastle Street, in Brunswick and then dinner at Glynn Visual Arts between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Diners will pay $20 for lunch and $30 for dinner, which includes delicious soup, bread, dessert AND you get to take your bowl home. ( The evening diners will also get a glass of wine!)

America's Second Harvest serves a critical role in alleviating hunger in southeast Georgia. The Christ Church Backpack Buddies program alone purchases over 100,000 pounds of food from Second Harvest every year for hungry children in the Glynn County School System. Support for this mission is crucial for our community, so please help by attending this wonderful event, sponsored by Stratton Hall, Parker's and GVA. Reserve your spot at www.helpendhunger.org. For more information, contact Kalista Morton at [email protected].
Backpack Buddies - Next Packing on Nov. 13

The Christ Church Backpack Buddy program is feeding 500+ students this school year and we need all the help we can get on packing days! Please join us on the line on Wednesday, November 13 , at 10:00 am, in the Parish Hall and help us get all the bags packed! Save the dates for December 4 and 18, too!

For more information, please contact Susan Shipman at [email protected]
Help Children at Burroughs Molette Whenever You Buy Groceries at Harris Teeter
You can help Burroughs Molette Elementary School every time you shop at Harris Teeter. Simply tell your cashier (during check-out) that you want Burroughs Molette's account number (6700) linked to your Harris Teeter VIC card. Once the account number is linked, every time you shop during the program, 2% of your Harris Teeter brand purchases will be contributed by Harris Teeter to the school. It's that easy!
The ECW Tour of Homes Needs You Now!
Last spring, 29 agencies primarily serving women and children in need, benefited from ECW's Annual Tour of Homes, and from the sale of our Christ Church Cookbook. This fall, we again are asking for generous donations that are such difference-makers in so many lives. We look to our church family, and beyond, to make it happen. If you'd like to be a patron or volunteer on Tour Day, March 21, please contact Susie Henning (e-mail is [email protected]), or Tami Black ( [email protected]), or visit christchurchtourofhomes.org.
