I swear it didn't look that big when it was outside standing next to the others. We said we wanted a nine-foot tree, and he showed us the "nine to ten" foot trees. We didn't like the price, so we decided to look for something smaller. We found a tree that looked good. It was tall, and it was full. So we chose that one. My first clue should have been when the three men went to load it onto our car and they groaned under the weight. "You got a neighbor who can help you with that?", he asked. "I've got her," was my response, indicating Donna. How bad could it be, I thought?
Well, we got it off the car. Dropped it off the car, rolling it over me in the process, is the more precise description. Then we managed to get it up the front steps. We couldn't really carry it, so we dragged it behind us, using both hands and all of our leg muscles in the process. We stood it up in the stand, but Donna couldn't hold it up long enough for me to tighten the screws, so I held it and she tightened the screws. It had three and a half inches of clearance to the ceiling. But the width! Nearly seven feet across. We set a new family record - biggest Christmas tree ever, er, biggest Advent bush ever. Sorry, my mistake; it won't be a Christmas tree for a few more weeks.

Lenten Meditation Series - Writers Needed |
|
For four years, during 2011 - 2014, the parishioners of Christ Church produced our own collections of daily meditations for Lent based on the daily office lectionary Bible readings. Our publication was closely modeled on the
Forward Day by Day
devotional booklets that have been so popular in The Episcopal Church since 1935. After a few years' hiatus, we are going to revive that ministry for Lent 2018. There will be some modifications but the concept is still the same. Each day a parishioner will offer a short, original reflection based on one of the assigned Bible readings for that day. The meditations will be delivered to all parishioners by daily emails. For anyone not using email, written copies can be provided on request. Using this devotional resource, we can all take a journey through Lent together as a parish family.

ECW Tour of Homes Team Update! |
by Beth Smith
I joined Christ Church eleven years ago and knew a handful of people. I quickly volunteered to work on the Tour of Homes being a docent at homes, a Co-Chair of a home and then on to Chair the entire TOH - twice now! Through this glorious event, I have met and engaged with most people in our church. I thank my good Lord for giving to me a church family and I give great credit to The Tour of Homes for this priceless treasure. I encourage you to become part of our team and get to know all these wonderful people. We've been hosting this event for 65 years - and it's still providing lots of hope to those in our community less fortunate than we are. The people currently on the TOH committee are generous, welcoming, and FUN! You will receive great rewards when you become part of the team that grants $60,000, $70,000, or more, to our local charities primarily benefiting women and children.
I encourage you to join us in any way you can! Recently, Charlotte, our very wonderful team of volunteers, and I sent out letters to all of you providing opportunities to become Volunteers and/or Benefactors. I am proud to announce that as of date we have received 16 Benefactor checks and 33 Volunteer Cards. As we told you last week, we have 4 houses on Sea Island/Ocean Forest, 4 houses on St. Simons and two new historical sights - Harrington School House and the Tabby Slave Cabins. Again Musgrove Retreat and Conference Center has agreed to both be on the Tour and to host our Celebration Party the next night, March 18.
So when you get a chance this busy Christmas season, please prayerfully consider the ECW's Tour of Homes' team! You may send in the cards provided, or contact one of us. I encourage you to check out our website: christchurchtourofhomes.org, and find us on facebook and instagram pages.
TOUR DAY: March 17th, 2018 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

ECW Scholarships |
|
In this season of Thanksgiving and remembrance, don't forget that the ECW scholarship fund is a great way to give thanks or memorialize someone special and still pass the gift on into the future. The scholarship fund is growing and you can be a part of it by making a donation as a expression of thanks or as a memorial. Some young person in the future will benefit from your generosity and will thank you for it. Call Jane Watson, 912-638-7285
, for more information.

Martha's Guild |
|
Martha's Guild is looking for some new members. Many of our long time members who have served so well are unable to do so now.
The members of Martha's Guild prepare and serve food at receptions for the bereaved families and friends of those whose funerals are held at Christ Church.
It is a gift of love and not a difficult task.
Please call 912-638-2717 if you would like to be a part of this ministry. Angie Burns will be happy to supply details.

Christmas at Sea |
We live in a seaport district and Christ Church actively collaborates with the local International Seafarers Center, which ministers to seafarers from all over the planet. Most of us are blessed with family and friends during the holidays, but Christmas can be a lonely time for seafarers. Every year during the season of Christmas, the International Seafarers' Center spreads the love of Christ through their Christmas at Sea program. About 1500 seafarers travel through the port of Brunswick from Thanksgiving to January 7th and the Center hopes to give every seafarer a Christmas present.
If you'd like to be part of this ministry, it's as easy as filling a shoebox with 12 - 15 item from the list found
here, wrapping the box in holiday paper and bringing it to either the church office in the Parish Hall, or to the International Seafarers Center, at 307 Newcastle Street in Brunswick.

Coffee Hour |

Breakfast with St. Nicholas |
|
Breakfast with St. Nicholas, on Saturday, December 2nd, was a fun-filled morning for children and parents alike. We were happy to see so many Christ Church families and welcome so many guests! After a hearty pancake breakfast, all were treated to the real story of Christmas, followed by exciting games, activities and Christmas craft-making.
Many thanks to all who made this annual event the terrific family experience that it was! We'd especially like to thank Donna Purdy, Fr. Tom Purdy, Tony Kreimborg, Sarah Kreimborg, Jeff Poulos, Tracy Poulos, Bernie Keele, Joan Keele, George Ingram, Ed Turner, Lynne Turner, Barbara Abbate, Sarah Sheffield, Beth Smith, Esther Zylstra, Liz Omeara, Leigh Lane, Marilyn Canady, Greg Canady, Eva Purdy, Emma Williams, Mitchell Peck, Mindy Martin, Dave Davis, Peg McBride, Peter McCall, Charlie Daniel and Christine Plank for all their hard work!

Susanna Wesley Guild |
|
The Susanna Wesley Guild will be meeting on Tuesday, December 12th, at 10:30 am.
There will be a program with a special speaker that morning, who will be presenting a historical portrait of Christmas on St. Simons Island. A Guild member has been instrumental in creating this fascinating presentation. Visitors are welcome! The Guild
will also be collecting contributions for our Christmas outreach, which will be directed to the International Seafarers' Christmas-At-Sea project in the form of
telephone gift cards for 1,500 seafarers who are away from home during the holidays. Cards may be purchased for $5 each, and members may give as many as they wish. (Please bring cash to make purchasing more easy!)

Library Volunteer Needed |
|

An Interfaith Journey to the Holy Lands: Relationship, Understanding, and Community Harmony
|
|
Join Rabbi Rachel Bregman, Rev. Alan Dyer, and Rev. Tom Purdy as they lead an interfaith journey to the Holy Land with Medji Tours in June 2019. This once in a lifetime trip aims to build relationships across cultural and religious lines in our community by exploring together the shared roots of our traditions in Israel and Jordan. Additionally, this interfaith journey hopes to begin a longer-term process of continuing to form relationships, deepen understanding, and build community across other faith organizations in Glynn County, Georgia upon our return. This trip is open to any and all who would like to participate in this holy work. For more information, click
