Rector's Ramblings

This Rambling was written for Holy Week in 2014.  There is a timelessness to it so I have decided to share it again. Yesterday I was in Savannah for our diocesan Chrism Mass again, and while it's still not an ideal time to steal away for four or five hours during Holy Week, I did find it refreshing and inspiring.  I invite you to "hang in there" with this Holy Week as your schedule and energy allows. This is a powerful week with much to offer us.

T+

I like the annual tradition of the Chrism Mass, which involves a diocesan gathering of clergy (and a few lay folks) with the bishop to bless oil for use in the church and provide an opportunity to renew our ordination vows. I was in Statesboro this morning doing just that. But, since this is a week for confession, let me confess: I don't like doing it in Holy Week. I know it's a tradition; I know it's good to force ourselves away from the 'busy-ness' of Holy Week; I get it. But it's still annoying, and I can't help it. I have trouble letting go of my to-do list on one of the weeks with so many to-do's.

Worship

Holy Week and Easter Worship Services

Holy Week began with Palm Sunday and continues throughout the week at both Christ Church and St. Ignatius, until Easter Sunday, on April 16th. Please join us as we journey towards the cross in the remaining days of the week. You may find a complete list of worship services here.

Busy Bags Are Here!
Busy bags are now available for your young children to enjoy during our Sunday services. Just pick up a bag from the basket in the church, let your children explore the contents and return the bag at the end of the service.

Flower Guild Newcomer Classes
Our third week's class members, (front) Paige Peck, Janice Thomas, (back) Julie Beimler and Deborah Jaehning learned to create unique arrangements with the palms.

In support of our new Parish Hall Services, the Christ Church, Frederica Flower Guild is training new members to design the flowers for our new worship space. Flower Guild members must be willing to fully commit to service to the glory of God and the Church once every 6 to 8 weeks. We are excited to be adding a new generation of flower designers to build up our existing Flower Guild, who beautify our worship spaces on Sundays and major feast days such as Christmas, Easter and Pentecost.

These new members are being taught in class with hands-on training during Lent and Eastertide, with each class taught on Saturday mornings in the Parish House. The classes are being taught by David Lowe, a member of the Flower Guild and professional designer for 41 years.

The designs that are produced in each class are being used to beautify the Parish Hall for the 9:15 service on the following Sunday. There is no charge for the class and the flowers will be provided and underwritten by memorial gifts in memory of Merritt Levitan. Click here to see more photos.

Class Schedule

April 15 - Easter arrangements
April 29th - To be announced at class

Those who would like to join these classes and become part of the Flower Guild should contact David Lowe at [email protected] or call (c) 404-822-9484 or (w) 912-638-7323

Dear Christ Church family,

Well, you've done it again!! For the 64th time you have shown the best of our church community, our islands and our hospitality. Because of your tireless efforts and countless hours of dedication and service, we welcomed thousands of visitors to our island and our church home.  Of course, our community neighbors also once again joined the effort so eagerly and have become an invaluable part of this annual effort...  A huge THANK YOU goes out to our homeowners who so graciously allowed over a thousand folks to traipse through their lovely homes, all for such a wonderful cause...

EYC Activities

EYC Outreach - St. Mark's Towers

On Thursday, March 30th, our EYC, Junior EYC, their parents and other volunteers went to St. Mark's Towers in Brunswick to help serve the monthly birthday dinner. They also provided entertainment for the residents there, which included music by Ladd Rector and Brad Hamil, who led an out-fashioned sing-along. It was a great time of fellowship for all generations! Many thanks to all of the students and adult volunteers who made the outreach at St. Mark's Towers such a special evening. Click here to see photos of all the fun!

Rooted and Relevant
This EYC sponsored worship service takes place on the second Sunday of each month at 6:00 pm. Led by students, adults and clergy, this service is open to any who wish to attend and includes creative liturgy and music that is sometimes softly meditative and other times more upbeat.  Our next EYC Rooted and Relevant service will take place in May.

Mark Your Calendars for Relay for Life NOW!

Relay for Life is nearly here! Come walk with us on Friday, April 21, 2017, starting at 6:00 pm until midnight. You can stay and walk as little or as long as you like. We will be providing Grandy's chicken and water/sodas to all our participants, so plan to stay for dinner. We would appreciate it if participants would bring a side dish, fruit, snacks, etc. to round out our meal.

If you are a survivor, the Survivor's Lap is held first at about 6:30 pm, so plan to come early for that. You are the reason we have the relay.

Thank you everyone who participated in our Dine Out for a Cure at Chick-fil-A. We received a check for $90.56 to add to our current donations of approximately $2600.00. Let's keep the momentum going so we can reach our goal of $7000. If you need a donation/luminary form, want to register to walk in the Survivor's lap or have any questions, please call Sally Essig at 912-223-5353 or [email protected] .

The Flower Cross

The Flowering of the cross has become an Easter tradition at Christ Church. David Lowe and Chris Triplett begin the process by embellishing the cross outside the church entrance with spring flowers and invite the entire parish to bring blooms that they have purchased or cut in their yards to services on Easter Day. (Mr. MacGregor - aka David - will be there to assist, and might even take a picture of you and your family as you celebrate this joyous day) Don't forget your flowers and camera on Easter Morning!
