Father Tom is away today, but will return with his ramblings next week.

Worship

Easter 2017

Alleluia! Christ is risen! After the journey through Holy Week, a glorious Easter was celebrated at St. Ignatius Chapel and Christ Church, Frederica this past weekend. With deepest gratitude, we offer our thanks to all who worked to share the celebration of Christ's glory with the hundreds of visitors, guests and faithful parishioners who filled our churches. From the simplest stuffing of Easter eggs for the children, to the magnificently decorated sanctuaries, where transcendent music filled the air, our volunteers, altar guild, flower guild, choirs, musicians, worship servers and staff worked tirelessly to glorify God and bring the Good News of Jesus's resurrection to all, on this holiest of days. It was a very beautiful day indeed and more images of this special time can be found here.

Busy Bags Are Here!
Busy bags are now available for your young children to enjoy during our Sunday services. Just pick up a bag from the basket in the church, let your children explore the contents and return the bag at the end of the service.

The Bishop's Annual Visitation
On Sunday, April 30, 2017, our Bishop, the Right Reverend Scott Anson Benhase will be visiting Christ Church, Frederica and will lead services at both 9:15 am and 11:15 am. Coffee hour reception with the Bishop will take place between services at 10:15 am in the Parish Hall.

How to Dress Like a Bishop
With the bishop's visit only a week and a half away, it is both timely and helpful that parishioner John La Boone has written an article detailing the vestments of an Episcopal bishop.
Please read this informative article below.

                      ****

In The Episcopal Church we have many cultural elements that have been passed down through the centuries. That includes the use of clerical vestments, the articles of clothing that distinguish our deacons, priests and bishops.

Bishops share some of the same vestments with priests, such as the clerical collar and the stole that is worn when celebrating communion or hearing confessions. But one of the most distinctive and recognizable bishops' vestments is the tall, folding headgear that rises to a double-point, known as a mitre, worn for ceremonial purposes. The word mitre is derived from Greek and actually means "turban" or "headband." It is thought that the style of mitres is traceable to pagan times and is similar to the headgear worn by the kings of ancient Persia and Assyria.
