The ransomware strain SamSam is still pummeling the healthcare sector, and hackers using it have hit at least eight separate targets in the government and healthcare sectors this year, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Verizon has published its annual "Data Breach Investigations Report." Some interesting statistics:
  • 76% of breaches were financially motivated.
  • Over a quarter (28%) of attacks involved insiders.
  • Errors were at the heart of almost one in five (17%) breaches.
  • Ransomware is the top variety of malicious software, found in 39% of cases where malware was identified.
  • 4% of people will click on any given phishing campaign.
  • Healthcare is the only industry where the threat from inside is greater than that from outside.
