Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs, are events that occur in childhood, such as living in a household with:

  • violence
  • neglect
  • substance abuse
  • food insecurity
  • parental separation or divorce,
  • abandonment
  • untreated mental illness.

Children who experience ACEs are more likely to face challenges in adulthood. These can include physical or mental health problems.

The purpose of the Office of Resilience is to coordinate New Jersey organizations that are addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs.

Virtual Symposium


The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is pleased to host a national symposium.


The focus is on understanding and preventing youth hate crimes and identity-based bullying.

Learn about programs that help schools, families, law enforcement, and communities to work together.


Strategies to build protective factors in youth and help youth resist and disengage from extremist hate groups will be shared.

This free virtual event will be held from 1 - 5 p.m. on both October 27 & 28, 2021
