House System
We rolled out a new tradition today by debuting our House System with a “Sorting Ceremony,” where all students and staff were sorted into one of four houses! Each house is equally comprised of students from Jr. Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 and will compete for points throughout the year. At the end of the year, one house will receive the honor of winning the Founder’s Cup.
The houses are named after iconic members in Day School’s history. The Igleheart house is named after Jim and Diane Igleheart, long-time supporters and trustees of the school. The Baumgart House is named after Esther Baumgart, Day School’s very first, and longest-serving teacher. The Boettcher house is named after Helen Boettcher, a beloved science teacher in the Upper School, and the Heekin House is named after Ken Heekin, the Head of School who spearheaded Day School’s move from downtown to Green River Road in 1968. Each house is also symbolic of one of the four attributes of Day School’s Portrait of a Graduate: balance, resilience, global mindedness, and entrepreneurial learning.
