A new chapter for Power of Harmony!

Introducing...
Power of Harmony Foundation

Power of Harmony was initially launched in December 2018 at the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility in Cleveland, Ohio, through the Wenk Family Charitable Foundation. One year later, in December 2019, we partnered with Harmony Foundation International in Nashville, Tennessee, to expand the program nationally, reaching beyond Ohio into other states. Today, Power of Harmony operates in five youth prisons across three states: Ohio, Texas, and Indiana.

In November 2025, the Power of Harmony Foundation became an independent non-profit 501c3 corporation, based in Cleveland, Ohio.

Our mission continues—to transform the lives of incarcerated youth through the power of music.

Conor Michael Smith Visits Youth Prisons

Contemporary Rap/Hip Hop artist Conor Michael Smith entertained youth at Cuyahoga Hills, Indian River and Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facilities in Ohio and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility (Indiana) this past month. He brought his inspiring lyrics and easy going charm to each concert and truly reached the incarcerated young men. Conor surprised his audiences with songs that included violin and ukulele riffs and strong messages of hope and perseverance that resonated with the youth.

His set included songs from his latest album "All Good Things Come in Time" which is streaming on several music platforms.

Our Advisory Council is formed!

We're very fortunate to have assembled a great team of advisors to the Power of Harmony Foundation. Each brings a unique perspective and excellent experience in their respective fields.

Leslie Armour and Larry Koval bring us music business experience and an impressive line-up of local and international artists that they represent and hundreds more that they personally know!

Mark Dobrzynski has worked inside the juvenile corrections industry for his entire career and Pierce Reed's work with the Ohio Innocence Project (OIP) is impressive and well documented. Raymond Towler is not only an incredible fine artist and accomplished musician but is also a client of OIP and an exonerated returned citizen who embraced his love of music (and art) while in prison and brings an extremely valuable perspective to the Advisory Council.

Brandon Chrostowski's renowned Edwin's Restaurant & Leadership Institute is a cutting-edge establishment that offers current and formerly incarcerated individuals an opportunity to learn a skill and build a meaningful career. He is a big believer in 'second chances' and he created a model to help returned citizens make the most of theirs!

Rounding out this 'all star team' is retired CEO of Harmony Foundation International Perry White. We had the pleasure of working with Perry for 5 years as we took Power of Harmony to a new level, nationally, and his experience in non-profit leadership will prove invaluable.

Our Advisory Council is engaged and interactive throughout the year. We call on them individually or collectively with day-to-day considerations, and lean on specific expertise when a particular challenge presents itself.

Josh Groban supports Power of Harmony (again!)

We are proud to announce that Josh Groban's Find Your Light Foundation was the FIRST contributor to the Power of Harmony Foundation as we established our 501c3 in Ohio. His gift represents 5 consecutive years that he and his family have supported Power of Harmony with a grant.

We're thrilled to have him in our corner and are encouraged by a stream of early personal gifts that have arrived from personal contributors since January 1!

Being "out there" is SO important for the Power of Harmony Foundation. We're proud of the work we're doing and want the world to know how Power of Harmony is impacting the youth we serve in juvenile correctional facilities. We are very fortunate to have a dedicated, passionate faculty spending time in prisons each week sharing music, building ensembles of young singers and providing them important guidance and attention. We're also proud of the joy they experience when we bring live concerts to their facilities to entertain and encourage them.

Where does the money go?

If you're interested in supporting Power of Harmony you might be curious how your donation will be used! We're proud to say that 100% of the gifts go directly to programming! Our administrative costs are covered by an 'angel' donor who wants to see the program flourish and grow. So your donation cover the fees paid to the PoH music teachers, the performers who entertain the youth in the prisons, and the Power of Harmony logo wear proudly worn by the young men who sing in ensembles in their facilities.

Please consider helping us sustain the programs in place in 5 prisons in 3 states (Ohio, Indiana and Texas) and enable us to respond to inquiries we have form prisons in 6 other states that want Power of Harmony for their youth!

Click the button below to contribute!

Our Power of Harmony "Wish List" includes new
t-shirts for our youth. They wear these when performing in the prisons. Each PoH youth receives his to take home when he is released!

Click on the DONATE button above if you're moved to help finance our new shirts!

Why does
Power of Harmony work?

Brent and Maurice share "Why" Power of Harmony works!

Great question!

Actually, there are two questions that should be asked here - Why does Power of Harmony work? and Why Sing?

Brent Chamberlin and Maurice Martin, our Power of Harmony music educators at Indian River answer the first question in the video, above. Check it out!

Why sing? Well, music is an elixir!

The Emotional/Psychological benefits of singing: relieves stress and tension, improves depression and feelings of loneliness, boosts confidence, is a mindful activity (keeps you in the moment – forget about everything else!)!

The Social benefits of singing include: improves social bonding and social cohesion, singing together creates a strong sense of community and social inclusion.

The Behavioral benefits: singing helps you believe in yourself, increasing self-efficacy, and provides a nonthreatening

way to express one's emotions.

And, the Physiological benefits include: a strengthened immune system, improved breathing, it's is an aerobic activity and increases overall health, and it helps with pain.

And guess what? You don't have to be a great singer to experience these benefits!
