In Memoriam
It is with sadness we write to tell you of the death of Ross McLean, on May 21, 2020. His family is grateful for the care he received at Hospice Wellington, and that Janet was able to be with him in his final days and hours.
Please keep Janet, and their children and grandchildren, in your prayers, especially as many of the usual comforts and consolations in times of grief are not available to them right now.
Rest eternal grant unto Ross, O Lord.
And let light perpetual shine upon him.
May his soul rest in Peace
and rise in glory with all the saints of light.

Having Trouble Reaching our Remote Worship?
The instructions below for reaching our online Meeting Space can be daunting. If you (or someone you know) would like to connect with our online worship or coffee hours but are having difficulty, send a name and a phone number to
rector@apostlesguelph.org, then be ready to answer the phone at the appointed time. Where there is a will, we will find a way!
Sharing Good News!
One important thing we do when we gather on Sundays is to encourage one another in those acts of love that Jesus asks of us. When we cannot gather
as
the Church it is more important than ever that we continue to
be
the Church. When you hear about ways that love is being shown in the world (especially by members of the Parish Family!) please send a note to
stmattjam@gmail.com
and help u
s celebrate the ways in which we continue to live up to our Baptismal covenant:
to proclaim the Good News of God’s love; to seek and serve Christ in all persons and love our neighbour; to strive for justice and respect the dignity of every human being; to safeguard the integrity of God’s Creation.
Resources worth Sharing:
our associate Priest, Rev. Daniel Cyr, shares
this article about some of the sneaky ways that the stress of these times might be presenting itself. Does any of this sound like you? You are not alone. There are good reasons for you to be reacting in this way. And one starting point for professional support through this crisis can be found
here.

Sharing Stories While We're Keeping our Distance

With Pentecost coming up in less than two weeks it brings back the memories of Pentecost of 2006, here, at the then St. James the Apostle. The installation of the elevator and the renovations of the hall in 2000 had produced a debt that was divided between three loans (mortgages). In 2005 ‘The Time is Now’ campaign was run to raise $350,000.00 to cover the remaining debt owed on these three loans. The pledges were to be paid over three years from 2005 to 2008. $184,000.00 was owing on the largest of the three loans. By Easter of 2006 the balance of this largest loan had shrunk to $10,000.00. A few families came forward and offered to pay up their pledges ahead of time so that by Pentecost 2006 that loan had been completely paid up and we had a celebration of the burning of the “mortgage” at our Pentecost service with a five piece band to accompany the organ and choir and the church decorated to the rafters.

Caring for Our Neighbours -
And Getting Support from our Neighbours!
We are so pleased to share that this week, our own Kitchen Bees were recognized by the Bishop's Office for their important work in getting good food into the hands of those who need it. Thank you to all of our neighbours, across the Diocese, whose support of the
Pandemic Response Fund made it possible for us to receive a $750 gift in for the Kitchen Bees Project. Here is some of what the Bees have been able to do in just a few short weeks:
|
|
|
|
|
May 12: Breakfast for Lunch and Dinner! Hot Breakfast Sandwiches for the Bench, and quiches for one of our GNSC partners.

Thank you to all those who have volunteered and given the gift of your time and energy to this project. Without you, that pile of ingredients can't help anyone!
Want to
bee
a part of this project? Contact Coordinator Alex Walmsley through the
the office and he will connect with you to arrange a date to volunteer. Let him know how many people are in your household group, and what recipes you already know and love, and he will work with you to come up with a menu plan that will meet the needs of our partners. Then arrive on the appointed day to find all your ingredients ready for you to get to work (after you have passed the screening questionnaire and washed your hands!)
Do you have
a blender or food processor that is in good working condition but surplus to your own kitchen needs? It would make a HUGE difference to the Kitchen Bees making soups! Contact the office if you would be able to donate a food processor to the Church Kitchen, or make a Long Term Loan for the remainder of the Kitchen Bees project.
If you are able, please consider using the link above to support similar important work throughout our diocese, through the Pandemic Response Fund, or make a gift to the Church (see below) designated for the Kitchen Bees Project.
