UCSF Awarded NIH Institutional Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Prize


The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Institutional Excellence in DEIA in Biomedical and Behavioral Research Prize Competition recognized UCSF among 10 U.S. post-secondary education institutions with a $100,000 prize for "implementing strategies to enhance DEIA in research environments."


UCSF is recognized for prioritization of DEIA as a core value through three phases of work: establishment in 2010 of the Office of Diversity and Outreach and its ongoing impact; the 2015 implementation of the five-year School of Medicine Differences Matter initiative; and the foundation of the UCSF Anti-Racism Initiative in 2020 to address institutional and structural racism.

Chancellor's Leadership Forum on Diversity & Inclusion

The forum provides a platform for community members to hear from senior leadership on diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism initiatives at UCSF. This year UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gillman, PhD, will join the forum to discuss freedom of expression and academic freedom with Chancellor Sam Hawgood, MBBS.

Nicholas Holmes, MD, MBA Named President of UCSF Health Benioff Children's Hospitals


Nicholas Holmes, MD, MBA will begin his new role as President of UCSF Health Benioff Children's Hospitals on March 11. “I’ve long admired UCSF’s dedication to being of service to the community and to providing a diverse and equitable workforce, and I’m incredibly honored by the opportunity to be a part of that,” said Holmes.

UCSF Police Accountability Board Creates New Resource Website


The UCSF Police Accountability Board (PAB), dedicated to promoting accountability, trust, safety, and transparency within UCSF and the UCSF Police Department, has launched its new website. The site provides information about the PAB as well as a secure and convenient way for the community to submit concerns or complaints about UCSF Police Department.

CSEO Seeks UCSF Hosts for High School Summer Internship Program


The UCSF Center for Science Education and Outreach (CSEO) partners with department hosts to offer internships that include job shadowing, administrative work, research projects, and laboratory experience. The in-person internships begin this June with 16 to 20 hours weekly required. Contact UCSF Pathway Programs Manager Angel-Max Guerrero to engage.

UCSF gathers for Black History Month events and learning sessions throughout the month.

Founder's Day Chancellor Awards Nominations Due Feb. 16


The annual Founder's Day Chancellor Awards recognize faculty, staff, and learners for extraordinary professional commitment and individual contribution UCSF, as well as the larger local and global community that goes beyond the scope of their individual functions.Awards include: Exceptional University Management, Exceptional University Service, and Public Service.

Welcome the Year of the Dragon with Lunar New Year 2024


Lunar New Year begins February 10 in 2024, and is celebrated among many Asian cultures and communities. In 2022, Governor Newsom signed AB 2596 designating Lunar New Year as an official state holiday with provisions for holiday credit for state employees.
