In a World facing the Unrelenting Rise of Artificial Intelligence, Where do we turn?

Richard McKenna, President, BABCNE | CEO, Atlantic Strategies

We’re a long way off from Hollywood’s version of A.I. with robots taking over the world and enslaving humans to do their bidding. But there are tangible fears such as losing jobs to AI powered robots, reading bland and copyright-violating articles being created by ChatGPT, or voters being subject to deepfake advertising on social media that can’t be discerned from the real thing.

In 2023, forty-two percent of CEOs surveyed at a Yale CEO Summit say A.I has the potential to destroy humanity in five to ten years. Now just a year later, that tone has changed. According to Gartner’s 2024 CEO Survey, 87% of CEOs agree that AI's benefits to their businesses outweigh the risks.

So, what should we believe? How do we power our businesses with it? And how do we protect ourselves from unintended consequences? These questions and more will be addressed on November 13 at noon Eastern Time either online via Zoom or by visiting the modern campus of the Hult International Business School’s Cambridge, MA campus.

I’m thrilled to emcee a panel of industry experts who will share their thoughts and answer audience questions about the challenges and opportunities with A.I. in business. Panelists include:

And of course, special thanks to Pete Bagley, Practice Lead Entrepreneurship, and the entire Faculty, Staff, and Students of the Hult International School of Business for hosting this important event with expected participants joining from across the BABC network in the US, Canada, and the UK.

As we’re dealing with multiple time zones for the on-line participants as well as a large in-person event, doors will open at 12:00 with the speaking portion starting promptly at 12:15. It is expected to last about 50 minutes followed by networking and refreshments.

There is no cost to participate but interest has been significant in this AI event, so please register early below.

Most business leaders want more state support for R&D

Research Professional News, October 22, 2024, Frances Jones, UK

Call for increased research funding comes as sector fears effective cut in spending review

Seventy per cent of business leaders want to see the UK government increase support for R&D, according to a survey. R&D tax credit specialist ForrestBrown unveiled results of its survey on key policy changes business leaders want from the new government on 21 October.

Responses from 500 business leaders across the UK showed widespread support for targeted policy changes in three areas: increased R&D funding, closer ties with the EU and tax stability, according to the innovation firm.

That comes amid widespread fears of budget cuts to research, revealed by Research Professional News.

The Future of US-China Relations and Implications for Global Business

Institure of Directors, October 24, 2024, London

As the world’s two largest economies, the United States and China maintain a complex and often adversarial relationship that has significant implications for global politics and trade.

At a recent Institute of Directors webinar, experts unpacked how the contrasting foreign policies of the two US presidential candidates—Trump and Harris—might reshape the geopolitical and economic landscape.
