A Stewardship Moment with Thomas Bledsoe, Sr. Warden

Why I pledge to S. Stephen's...

  1. I support the mission of S. Stephen's.
  2. My pledge honors the memory of those members of S. Stephen's who gave generously of their resources in previous years, I feel like in some small way, I am doing my part.
  3. I understand that it takes money for S. Stephen's to exist, thrive, grow. Our mission is at risk without our financial support.
  4. I feel a responsibility to do my part to make sure S. Stephen's financial position is as secure as possible.
  5. Pledging allows me to privately determine what I am able to do to support the church.
  6. Giving to the church first each month sets a good tone for how I manage my finances through the rest of the month.
  7. I feel like I am more giving to other charitable needs having set the tone with my pledge to S. Stephen's.
  8. Praying hard and having hard conversations at home about pledging is good for me and my household.

A Collect for Veterans Day

O Almighty God, grant we beseech thee, that we, who here do honor to the memory of those who have died in the service of their country, may be so inspired by the spirit of their love and fortitude that, forgetting all selfish and unworthy motives, we may live only to thy glory, to the service of all mankind and in the interests of peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Christmas Pageant Returns!

The Christmas Pageant returns! Spread the word and invite other families with children you think might be interested in participating. The 5:30 pm Family Mass on Christmas Eve will feature children and youth helping us to recall with joy the story of our Savior’s birth.

The main rehearsals in which this will all be put together are:

• Sunday, December 18th – 11:30 – 2:00 pm, with pizza lunch provided.

• Saturday, December 24th – 3:00 pm, a run through just before the performance itself. The kids come as they are and then head to the library to get dressed while the congregation comes for 5:30.

Smaller unit rehearsals may take place during Sunday School or just after Mass. We extend a huge thank you to Julia Steiny and Kate Lester for spearheading the effort to bring back this beloved tradition.

Organist & Choirmaster

Search Update

There are two more finalists who will be at S. Stephen's on November 20 and November 27. The Search Committee hopes to announce the next occupant of this position in early December. Any questions about the Search can be directed to Lynne DeBenedette, Chair, or to the Rector.

Save the Date!

Mark your calendars now! Our Annual Service of Lessons and Carols will offered on Sunday, December 18th, at 4:00 pm.  This is a significant change from previous years, in which Lessons & Carols had been offered on the first Sunday of Advent. As always, a festive reception will follow.

Nominations Committee

A Nominations Committee has been formed and will begin accepting nominations for open Vestry and Convention delegate positions, to be elected at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 29. If you have any nominations or suggestions, please reach out to George Ryan, Cory MacLean, Leana Hooks, Greg DePardo, Ernie Drew, or Bobby Rose, Committee Chair.

Project "Open Doors"

Whenever the doors of our church are open, we get visitors curious to see the inside of the church and to see what we are about. You can help!

If you are working remotely part of the time, why not work remotely from the church? Brown University student and parishioner Justin Lee has undertaken this two Fridays & Saturdays in a row now. Passersby were pleasantly surprised to see the doors open for much of the morning, and he reports that the occasional visitor did not disrupt his work. Please let the office know if you might be able to participate in this ministry. The church can set you up with wifi if needed. No amount of time is too short!

Pledge In-Gathering Sunday

Next Sunday, 20 November, the Feast of Christ the King, we will formally receive all the pledge cards for the coming year and present them at the Offertory, asking God's blessing upon our joyful giving. We will pray that God may bless our offering and transform it -- and US -- to be given for the work of the Body of Christ in the world.
