BE A MIRACLE LEAGUE BUDDY

Miracle League Participants

The 2025 Summer Miracle League season is upon us and YOU can serve as volunteer buddy! Games are Saturday mornings at 9 and 10, with games concluding at 11.

This is a great opportunity for family, friends, co-workers and more to be a part of the community and make an impact on the game! Buddies are encouraged to be 14+ years of age.

More information is provided below.

What is Miracle League? Miracle League provides children and adults with physical or mental challenges with a safe and spirited environment where they can hit, run, and catch in a non-competitive baseball league. Each game is two innings. Every player hits, every player gets on base, and every player scores.

What is a volunteer buddy? Every player is paired with a "buddy" to provide encouragement and assistance where needed during the game (hitting, catching, fielding, throwing, base running).

When are the games?  Miracle League plays on Saturday mornings at Inis Grove Park - Rotary Club of Ames Miracle Field (2500 Duff Ave). Games are at 9 and 10 a.m. Games are two innings and since everyone bats, games are generally around 45-50 minutes in length. Buddies are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to game time and meet by the first base dugout. Staff will be onsite to meet with volunteers and provide a brief orientation prior to games, answer questions, and partner buddies with players.

Game dates I could serve as a buddy:

  • Saturday, May 17
  • Saturday, May 24
  • Saturday, June 7

What if I can only help during one of the game times?  No problem! Please provide that information when you express your interest.

How to sign up myself and others? Email Courtney Kort, courtney.kort@cityofames.org

BARN OWL HABITAT BOX

Ames High Students with barn owl habitat box

Throughout the year, Ames High School Society of Women Engineers NEXT students learn about engineering, take part in small design challenges, and work with computer-aided drafting and 3D printing. The club collaborates with Iowa State University’s Society of Women Engineers, whose members provide valuable mentorship.

Their annual technical project supports hands-on learning related to physical construction. This year, the students chose to build a barn owl habitat box. The box will be placed in Moore Memorial Park, on the west side of Ioway Creek near a wooded area and more than 30 acres of prairie.
