DIOCESAN NEWS AND HAPPENINGS
|
|
Last night, Wednesday, September 14, the Reverend Canon Stephanie Spellers, Canon to the Presiding Bishop for Evangelism, Reconciliation, and Creation Care, gave a talk on “Racism and Truth Telling” at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Frankfort. She delivered a powerful, Gospel inspired presentation that challenged both churches and communities to take a good look at where we’ve come from and to seek solutions that can help us all to be more Christ-like in our approach to one another.
This event was associated with the Clergy Conference between the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington and the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky that is now in progress. After The Rev. Canon Spellers spoke, the Right Reverend Mark Van Koevering, Bishop of the Diocese of Lexington, and the Right Reverend Terry Allen White, Bishop of the Diocese of Kentucky, gave calls to action.
Leaders of the Racial Reconciliation Commission of the Diocese of Kentucky and the Commission for Racial Reconciliation for the Diocese of Lexington were responsible for the event’s planning.
Video of the event will be made available soon on diolex.org.
