DIOCESAN HAPPENINGS

TWO MEMBERS OF OUR DIOCESE HONORED AT MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR CELEBRATION IN LEXINGTON

Once again, our diocese had a presence at the annual Unity Breakfast and Freedom March in Lexington on January 20th. Bishop Mark hosted nine Episcopalians at the Unity Breakfast, and fourteen Episcopalians joined the Bishop and hundreds of others in the Freedom March. This year was extra special, as two Episcopalians in our diocese were honored.

Each year, a Unity Award is given to recognize a person or organization for outstanding service in the Lexington community. This year the Unity Award was granted to The Nest - Center for Women, Children, and Families. Sheri Estill, Director of Community Engagement, was featured in a video about The Nest, and she received the award on behalf of The Nest. Sheri is a longtime and devoted member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Lexington.

In the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration following the Freedom March, Whit Whitaker was honored. Whit was one of three distinguished civic leaders in Lexington invited to speak for one minute in a "Beat the Clock & Serve The People" feature. It was based on an anonymous quotation: "I only have one minute, just sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, can't refuse it. Didn't seek it, didn't choose it. But it's up to me to use it. I must suffer if I lose it. Give account if I abuse it. Just a tiny minute, but eternity is in it." Whit is a longtime and devoted member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Lexington, and Executive Director of the historic  Lyric Theater and Cultural Arts Center, also in Lexington.

HAPPENINGS

MARCH 13-15, 2020

Please make plans to join us for the next Happening...   Happening is a Christian experience presented by teenagers for teenagers. It is sponsored by the Episcopal Church, and is designed for all youth in grades 10-12.

Most young people have serious questions about Jesus and the Church. Happening is designed to address these questions. During a Happening weekend, participants experience the love of Christ as shown through prayer, worship, and the ministry of fellow students, clergy, and lay adults. The "Happeners" are encouraged to make their renewed faith a part of their everyday lives. Happening shows how Christianity can keep pace with the many changes in our lives and our world.
