Hello Suleica,

Happy April! Spring Break is just around the corner. I hope that you and your loved take some time to enjoy the terrific weather. While you're at it, take advantage of all that Gwinnett has to offer.

The start of 2025 has been busy. I've enjoyed interaction with residents across Gwinnett at many different events. It is always great to hear from different voices about our great County. In the first quarter of 2025, I had the privilege of speaking at the Fire & EMS Recruit and Graduation Ceremony (below left), the County's Black History Month celebration (below center), and providing the opening remarks for the World Korean Business Convention (below right).

Keep reading below for some exciting news and events happening in April.

Chairwoman Hendrickson delivers State of the County address

Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson announced a historic affordable housing development during her fifth State of the County address. As part of her speech, she highlighted the County's first-ever acquisition of an extended-stay hotel for conversion into affordable rental housing. In partnership with the Gwinnett Housing Corporation, the County secured the property in Peachtree Corners with a $7.7 million investment, using funds from the Affordable Housing Development Fund and federal HOME-ARPA dollars.

Additional takeaways included expanding the County's nondiscrimination ordinance, including community service aides to enhance support for Gwinnett Police and transit and infrastructure planning for a growing county. Learn more and view the 2025 State of the County address.

Community Resource Center groundbreaking

Gwinnett Officials break ground on Gwinnett Community Resource Center

Gwinnett County officials broke ground on the Gwinnett Community Resource Center, located at 1040 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville, to enhance services for residents in the area.

The 84,232-square-foot, three-story facility will house office space for County partners including View Point Health and serve as a community hub for programs that support mental and behavioral health, veteran and family services, and childhood development. The facility will also include a 30-bed inpatient crisis stabilization unit and a 23-hour temporary observation day center capable of accommodating up to 15 individuals. The project is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.

Recycle responsibly this Earth Day

Get ready to come together as one community to celebrate Earth Day! Bring your hard-to-recycle items to Gwinnett's annual Earth Day recycling event on Saturday, April 26 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.

From 9:00am to noon, residents can drop off items that are typically difficult to recycle such as electronics, latex and oil-based paints, tires, paper, and clothing. Residents must stay in their cars as volunteers will remove items from disposable containers in your trunk or back seat. For a list of acceptable items and more details, visit GCSolidWaste.com.

Beware of false water testing claims

Gwinnett Water Resources has received reports of companies leaving door hangers throughout the county alleging that Gwinnett's water is unsafe and offering to test the water in residents' homes. These claims are false.

Gwinnett Water Resources does not visit homes to test water unless a resident has specifically requested the service. If you believe a company is providing false claims about water safety, you can report them to the Georgia Consumer Protection Division at Consumer.GA.gov.
