February 2026

Hello!

We are all heartbroken by the death of Gwinnett County Police Officer Senior Pradeep Tamang — laid to rest this past weekend — and by the serious injury of Master Police Officer David M. Reed. Officer Tamang’s courage and service will never be forgotten, and my deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and fellow officers. We’re also keeping MPO Reed, his loved ones, and his medical team in our thoughts as he begins his recovery. We stand proudly with the Gwinnett County Police Department during this difficult time.

This February marks 100 years of Black History Month commemorations. What began in 1926 by historian and educator Dr. Carter G. Woodson as a week-long observance, expanded fifty years later into a month-long celebration. Gwinnett is proud to highlight the achievements and contributions of Black Americans with events all over the county this month.

My State of District 2 Town Hall will be held on April 16, so be sure to mark your calendars. Keep reading below for more details about the town hall and other upcoming District 2 events.

Feel free to reach out to me anytime at Ben.Ku@GwinnettCounty.com, I'm always glad to hear from you.

Honoring fallen Gwinnett Police Officer Pradeep Tamang

Gwinnett County is mourning the loss of Gwinnett County Police Officer Pradeep Tamang, who was killed in the line of duty Sunday, February 1.

At approximately 7:30am, MPO David Reed and Officer Tamang were dispatched to a financial fraud call in Stone Mountain. During the investigation, the suspect opened fire in an unprovoked attack. Both officers were struck, and one officer was able to return fire, leaving the suspect with non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite heroic efforts by his fellow officers, paramedics, and hospital staff at Northside Hospital Gwinnett, Officer Pradeep Tamang died as a result of his injuries. MPO Reed was also injured in the attack and is in serious but stable condition.

Officer Tamang joined the Gwinnett County Police Department in July 2024 and graduated from the 121st Police Academy in May 2025. He immigrated to the United States from Nepal 10 years ago. He leaves behind a fiancée as well as family in Pennsylvania.

MPO Reed joined the Gwinnett County Police Department in September 2015 and graduated from the 94th Police Academy.
