June 2025

June Greetings, District 4!

It's been another busy and rewarding period connecting with our community and advocating for Gwinnett County.

Beyond our borders, I had the opportunity to join fellow county leaders at the annual Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Annual Conference in Savannah last month. This vital gathering allowed us to exchange innovative ideas and explore effective strategies to benefit the county.

It was also an honor to receive the 2025 Georgia County Excellence Award at the conference alongside our other county commissioners!

This award recognizes Gwinnett's cutting-edge Situational Awareness and Crime Response Center, an advanced, real-time crime tracking initiative that embodies the county's dedication to public safety.

Another personal highlight this past month was attending the vibrant Multicultural Festival. As I looked across the joyful gathering, I was reminded of what truly makes Gwinnett – and indeed, America – exceptional: the beautiful way we celebrate our individual heritage while uniting as one strong community.

This annual event serves as a powerful reminder of the core values that make our community so resilient: faith, family, hard work, and the rich traditions that people bring from every corner of the world.

Back here in District 4, I had so much fun meeting families at the Suwanee Library! From engaging songs and captivating readings to interactive activities, it's always a pleasure to witness the positive impact Gwinnett's libraries have on our littlest residents.

Lastly, thank you to all who joined me for our recent "Local Voices, Local Places" at Bubba's 33!

It was wonderful connecting with you all and celebrating one of our local gems while discussing important topics.

Looking ahead, I'm eager to continue engaging with you, the residents of District 4. If you have any upcoming engagements you'd like to invite me to, please don't hesitate to contact my office at Matthew.Holtkamp@GwinnettCounty.com or by calling 770.822.7004 for more information.

Looking forward to connecting with you soon!

Happening Around Gwinnett

Conserving water for a sustainable future

Each of us can make small, conscious choices about our water usage. Protecting this vital resource and even saving on your water bill can be as simple as turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth or shaving, running only full loads in your dishwasher and washing machine, watering plants during the cooler parts of the day to minimize evaporation, and promptly checking and repairing any leaks.

By making mindful water usage a regular habit, we can collectively ensure its availability for generations to come. Discover more water-saving tips at DWRconserve.com.

Gwinnett's free summer meals return

Gwinnett is once again offering its valuable Summer Meals program, providing free and convenient grab-and-go breakfast and lunch to children 18 and younger, as well as individuals 19 and older with physical or mental disabilities. Nutritious meals will be available for pickup Monday through Friday, from 11:00am to 1:00pm – including County holidays – through Friday, August 1, while supplies last.

For a complete list of meal pickup locations, bus routes, and additional information, please visit GwinnettSummerMeals.com. If you're interested in supporting this important initiative by volunteering, please visit VolunteerGwinnett.net.

Gwinnett seniors' vehicle emissions exemption

Gwinnett offers emissions exemption for residents age 65 or older who are registered owners of a vehicle that is 10 model years old or older and driven less than 5,000 miles per year.

If you meet these criteria, contact the tag office at 770.822.8818 or Tag@GwinnettCounty.com before your vehicle renewal date to update your yearly mileage and determine your eligibility for this waiver. You can also find more information online on the Gwinnett Tax Commissioner website.

Gwinnett burning ban now in effect

Georgia's annual outdoor burning ban is active May 1 through September 30, 2025. For the past 20 years, this ban has prohibited the burning of yard and land-clearing debris during the summer ozone season to help prevent unhealthy levels of air pollutants statewide. Recreational and cooking fires are exempt from this ban.

If you suspect someone is improperly burning, please contact Gwinnett County’s non-emergency line at 770.513.5700. You can find more information about outdoor burning regulations in Gwinnett on the county's Fire and Emergency Services website.
