July 2025

Hello District 4, and Happy July!

I hope you kicked off the month enjoying Independence Day with good food, great company, and perfect weather! I started my summer spending quality time with my family.

This year, that family time also included what I've come to know as the "Fire Family," a group I had the privilege of learning about at the Fire Training Academy last month. I, along with the recruits, participated in extraction training.

From the initial fire and medical training to the continuous pursuit of the highest criteria of education, I've witnessed superior training in all disciplines of fire and emergency services

This experience truly deepened my gratitude for those willing to serve the residents of Gwinnett County. I eagerly look forward to congratulating these dedicated recruits at their Graduation and Promotional Ceremony in August.

Please mark your calendars for a City of Auburn Town Hall meeting being co-led by myself and Auburn Mayor Rick Roquemore on Tuesday, July 29 at 6:00pm at the Auburn Municipal Complex. Prior to the town hall meeting, come check out the Auburn Downtown Farmers Market from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Support local farmers, purchase fresh food, then come hear local updates from both your county and city leaders.

I also want to invite you to my next Local Voices, Local Places event taking place on Wednesday, July 16, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Jacks Public House in Braselton. Would love to see you there and connect for casual conversations about District 4 and Gwinnett County!

If you have any upcoming engagements you'd like to invite me to, please don't hesitate to contact my office at Matthew.Holtkamp@GwinnettCounty.com or call 770.822.7004 for more information. Enjoy the rest of your summer, District 4! Stay cool and stay safe.

Support Household Hazardous Waste event

Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes like aerosols, flammable liquids, fuels, and oil paints can severely damage our local environment. Summer is a great time to clean out your garage or basement and bring any hazardous waste to the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds on on Saturday, July 26, from 7:30am to 1:00pm.

Your help ensures these harmful materials are handled responsibly, protecting our beautiful county for everyone. You can also volunteer to assist with directing traffic, unloading vehicles, breaking down boxes, and other tasks. Learn more about how to support this event at GwinnettCB.org.

Small Business Collectives support Gwinnett entrepreneurs

The Gwinnett Entrepreneur Center (GEC) Small Business Collectives offer a comfortable and confidential environment for small business entrepreneurs to share ideas, network, and discuss the challenges of business.

These peer-to-peer gatherings last for 90 minutes, providing a convenient opportunity for busy individuals to come together and collaborate, fostering growth and shared learning. Find out how to get involved at GwinnettEntrepreneurCenter.com.

Enhancing support for Gwinnett Police

The County has introduced a new, non-sworn position within the Police Department called Community Service Aides. Community Service Aides handle road closures, abandoned vehicles, missing-person searches, and more. They support our officers, allowing them more time to respond quickly to urgent calls and critical incidents.

For those interested in a career in law enforcement, this role can also serve as a valuable hands-on experience and potential entry point into the profession. Six Community Service Aides began serving the community this month. To learn more about the program, visit GwinnettCounty.com/CommunityServiceAide.
