Monthly News & Updates

ENCORE CLEVELAND connects people who are in or nearing retirement from their primary careers with volunteer and employment opportunities through local nonprofit organizations. Discover more here.

On Wednesday, May 15, Leadership Geauga graduated its fifth class of the Heritage Program for Retirees, which was made possible by the Cleveland Foundation. The six-week program provided presentations and tours of industries in Geauga County, including agriculture, business, human services, history, and more. This group was very engaged with every discussion we had – we look forward to seeing how they become involved, or more involved, in our community!

East End Neighborhood House held its Foster Grandparent Annual Luncheon & Fundraiser on May 16. It was a huge success, raising money and visibility for this important cause. Foster grandparents commit to serving children in childcare centers and elementary schools. If you're aged 55+, and would like more information on this program, visit the East End Neighborhood House's website here. The organization "believes that every child should be raised in a loving community, every family should have the resources they need to lead their family in that community and every senior should be honored to live independently as wisdom keepers!"

E3 was on the move and in the groove for the month of May!

On May 1, E3 had the opportunity to attend and support Collaborate Cleveland in their first annual Women’s Breakfast event with keynote speaker Wendy Chun-Hoon, Director of Women’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor. The conversation was focused on supporting equitable workplaces for women and centering gender justice in our region’s policies and practices.

E3’s workshop on May 7 was facilitated once again by Briannia Love of Art Therapy, and those in attendance were pleased as they readily worked on vision boards for themselves. They are all actively seeking meaningful employment with Encore’s assistance. The exercise was offered to help them map their job search journey and life goals. They understood using their vision boards as a tool to stay focused, remain on track, and recognize that their goals and dreams of gaining employment can become a reality.

Later on, May 15, 2024, E3 attended the Annual Senior Day event, which is always held at Public Hall in downtown Cleveland. Seniors from all over the City of Cleveland came out to enjoy the fun, giveaways, and festivities.

And lastly, on May 22, E3 again took part in The Mind Challenge Tournament Finals held in Beachwood, OH. It was so exciting to watch and observe how the participating seniors immersed themselves in the game rounds in hopes of walking away as the winner. Congratulations to Sheffield Village who were crowned the Tournament Finals champions this year!
