DISCA JOINS COALITION TO OPPOSE
JERSEY CITY PAYROLL TAX
The Jersey City council has proposed a 1% payroll tax for all employers in the city. DISCA joined NJ Business & Industry Association (NJBIA), other trade associations and labor unions to oppose the proposed tax.
NJBIA spokesperson, Andrew Musick, notes that this tax would affect all businesses regardless of size. He further explains that businesses are still adjusting to an increase in NJ’s corporate business tax, and that many businesses that have been courted to relocate to Jersey City have made significant investments in infrastructure and employees. Lastly, Musick states that the proposed payroll tax will make Jersey City less competitive, specifically with respect to New York City.
