Parkview Early Education Center Weekly News Blast - November 5, 2018
Don't Forget! November 6 is Election Day!
Voters in Fairview Park will see Issue 5, a renewal levy, on the ballot for the Fairview Park City School District.
Here are FIVE FACTS about ISSUE 5:
  • This is a renewal (no new taxes) of a levy first passed in 2003. Voters renewed the same levy in 2008 and in 2012. Issue 5 will continue the current funding that has been in place for years -- $2.69 million annually for our schools.
  • Renewing the levy is critical to help extend the current operating budget to the year 2020. The operating budget includes staff and teacher salaries, benefits, utilities, and supplies.
  • The ballot language reads that this is an "emergency levy." This term "Emergency" is a legal term defined by the state of Ohio. There is no actual emergency. "Emergency" levies raise a flat dollar amount (in this case $2.69 million) instead of a specific millage rate.
  • This renewal will maintain the excellence that has been established over the years and keeps the district financially stable.
  • Passage of this levy will ensure that students continue to receive the same support they are currently receiving from:
* Classroom teachers, educational classroom aides and tutors
* Nurses, counselors, librarians and support staff
* Programs for students
* Student transportation

Stoller Pastry Pick Up
October's Stoller pastry fundraiser was such a success! Thank you all for your orders! On November 7th, all orders must be picked up between 5:00-7:00 pm. You can pick up your orders in the hallway just outside of the gym (there will be tables set-up where you can check-in). Volunteers will double check your orders and distribute any prize that your student may have earned.
Kindergarten Recess
The kindergarten students will continue to go outside everyday for recess as long as the temperature is above 20 degrees.  Please make sure you are dressing your child appropriately for the weather.
Hunger Drive
Hunger Drive  Collection & Competition has begun!  The PTA will be collecting pantry items to donate to the Fairview Park Hunger Center. All items will be collected in the turkey bin outside of the office. The Hunger Center is in need of several specific items including: peanut butter, jelly, pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, and mac & cheese. Toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant and feminine products are also needed. All other non-expired pantry items will be accepted as well. In an effort to promote leadership and service, this year the Kindergarteners will help box all of the pantry items that will be sent to the Hunger Center. It will be a great "hands-on" opportunity for the students to help their community. Pantry items may be donated until the day of the Turkey Trot, November 15th. To help maximize donations, we are doing what we do best... hosting a competition!! This year's competition prize is something you won't want to miss out on... TWO FRONT ROW RESERVED SEATS AT YOUR CHILD'S WINTER PROGRAM PLUS A RESERVED PARKING SPOT! So, here's what you need to do:

Put all donation items in a bag(s)
* Label bag(s) with student's name (it may be best to write their name on a paper and SECURELY tape the paper to the bag)
* Drop the bag(s) into the turkey bin outside of the office
* Wait for the raffle results which will be announced on Monday, 11/26.

How does the raffle work? Students will get a raffle ticket for EACH ITEM donated (for example: 5 items in a bag will give you 5 raffle tickets in the drawing, 15 items -> 15 tickets, etc.). We will draw one winner and that student's family will receive TWO front row reserved seats to their child's winter program. So, bring in those pantry items and get those entries!

Family and Community Engagement Corner

Family and Community Engagement Coordinator

I hope the end of the 1st quarter was successful for all our FPCS families! Please email me a question you have regarding things going on at school, parenting, or then I will share the answer next week! I am sure other parents have the same question and would love to see the answer.

I'd like to take a minute to have everyone assess how 1st quarter went.  Is all well with grades, emotionally happy, etc? Great! Or a re grades not up to par? Not feeling emotionally upbeat?? Make sure you and your child know that there are resources and people to help!

F or students, have them talk to their teachers and ask what they can do to improve their grades.

If they are not "feeling" upbeat...  are they eating right? exercising? sleeping? If all those are YES, and your child is still not their usual self, then maybe they need to see the school counselor or an outside source.

For parents, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns about being a parent.  I am always looking for topics that parents want to know more about. Let me know, and I will find the right resources to help all of us be better at parenting!

Please email me anytime!
