Creative Writing
And Jesus came and said to them,
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.
And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
-Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus indicates to his disciples that he has been given “authority.” As we talked about Sunday, Jesus recognizes that God has given him the vision and the power to “author” a story of healing, hope, justice, and love -- what he called the “Reign of God.”
In the passage above, Jesus shares this authority -- the path and power to author this Reign of God story. He had been teaching his disciples how to choose daily to be immersed in God’s Spirit, to live into God’s vision of hope, and to share God’s love, mercy, and justice in the world. He then sends these disciples into the world to continue “authoring” the creative story of God’s reign and to invite others to join this endeavor.
I have learned, as I shared on Sunday, stories designed to help with survival or “success,” but that depend at times on violence, oppression, racism, and making some group of people the “other.” It has taken time, intention, and spiritual practices of listening to engage unlearning those stories, learn a better story, and live into, by God’s grace and power, a better story.
What stories are you authoring each day? If it were a book, would your life be a creative writing piece (not in the sense of fiction, but in the sense of creating something good)? Do you author something extravagantly loving and beautiful? Do live a story of justice and mercy? Do you want to do so?
Jesus authored something very good. He calls us to follow him, to join the story, and to share with the Spirit in the composition of what unfolds this day. As we accept this invitation, we will indeed author something very good, too. Come and see.
Love,
Pastor Michael Bush

The Senior Minister Relations Committee
First, we have some new members on the comittee! This prompts us to remind you about this committee and what they do (and introduce the committee to folks who are newer among us). The members are: Eli Matthews, Karen Nousen (chair), Dean Whitten, and Melinda Sims.
In our CAUCC governance structure, the Personnel Committee is not charged specifically with support/reflection/communication responsibilities regarding the Pastors, but the CAUCC bylaws recognize the need for a body that will attend to these areas. That body has been working with Pastor Michael Bush (Pastor John has his own committee) and is called the Ministerial Relations Committee (MRC).
The purpose of this group is to provide support for the Pastor and provide a regular channel of communication between the Pastor and the congregation. The idea is that PRC will help do the following (from Pastoral Relations Committee guidelines developed by the Christian Church DOC):
1. Building Up The Body of Christ
2. Support
3. Feedback And Communication
4. Not a Grievance Committee
Click here to read the full details of each of these areas and
how they support your pastor.
The committee looks forward to working together with all of you!

from Brigid, Spiritual Nurturer:
I am not an expert. That word suggests authority over your experience and can subtly pull you away from curiosity. Life, healing, and the human experience are never finished. They are fluid, relational, and constantly unfolding. We are evolving, growing, and maturing daily.
The Spiritual Nurturing space is clean – not about advice, answers, fixing, rescuing, or directing. It’s a space where you meet yourself without being shaped by my identity.
I don’t need to be the authority, the rescuer, or the solution. I am simply present, and that presence supports your transformation.

Scam Alert
Always check the email address of messages received--
if the email is not from the
ministers and office staff addresses above, SCAM!
| | |
Emails usually say something similar to: "Do you have a minute?" or "Can you get me a gift card?" or "Do you shop at Amazon (Costco)?"
Sometimes they ask for the Members and Friends Address book.
We do not email that out! And we ask that you do not email it out either!
