Jeannette Miller
was honored by the Carson City Rotary when she was awarded the
Paul Harris Community Service Award
. Her wonderful family and many members of the St. Peter’s community celebrated on April 17, 2018.
Our own Barbara D’Anneo nominated her for outstanding service to the homeless community, the Boy Scouts and the Nevada Supreme Court.
Here at St. Peter’s, Jeannette organized a month-long homeless shelter. She personally contacted each volunteer for all nightly shifts and was either working every night at 8 pm, and every morning at 5:30 am, or was training us to open and close.
Jeannette’s true love has always been the Boy Scouts. She worked with her husband John to ensure successful summer camps for many young men.
Jeannette’s St. Peter’s family know we can count on her to select a formerly Catholic priest to lead our dysfunctional parish, ask tough questions about Jesus, act as our big sister and expect us to be our best.
We have this lovely, amazing woman who loves us, almost as much as her grandkids!
Congratulations to St. Peter’s and Jeannette!

The Labyrinth Project is coming along! The bid window for interested contractors closes on Wednesday, May 9 at 5pm. The blessing of the site will be on Pentecost Sunday, May 20. Gayle Bowers is preparing the site, teaming up with Boy Scout Troop #341, and working with Peter Mires to plan an archaeological hand-excavation. Memorial paver samples are at Ponderosa for engraving, and Tom Streenan accepted the role as coordinator for the Memorial Garden Project.
The parish really turned out for Saturday's clean up, along with Boy Scout Troop #341 who were instrumental in helping Gayle troubleshoot and map our sprinkling system. The property looks pretty good these days! Thanks to everyone who pitched in.

Bits & Pieces of St. Peter's History
|
|
A report of the June 1899 fire appeared in the
Morning Appeal
on June 6th. The newspaper reported that "the fire bells sounded and ... the sky was lit up with a very lively blaze." From the wood shed "the flames spread to the roof of the church and for a moment it looked as if the church was doomed." However, because of the prompt action of the "Curry boys," St. Peter's was saved.
