We are halfway through our project year for the UCSF HWRC, and very busy with our new projects. Many of us have presentations scheduled for the upcoming AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting and American Society of Health Economists annual conference, both in June, which will showcase recently-completed and soon-to-be-done research. If you have ideas about priority policy and practice issues that could be addressed in future studies on the long-term care workforce, we’d love to hear from you!

Laura M. Wagner Appointed Winnifred Montgomery Endowed
Chair in Aging
HWRC Deputy Director, Laura M. Wagner, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor and department chair in Community Health Systems, has been appointed the Winnifred Montgomery Endowed Chair in Aging at the UCSF School of Nursing. The Winnifred Montgomery Endowed Chair in Aging, which supports the advancement of research and teaching in the field of nursing, was established in 2017 by Nellie M. Mitchell in honor of her mother, Winnifred Montgomery. This appointment is particularly exciting as it is the first time a member of our school has held the chair.
A distinguished professor and internationally recognized leader in gerontological nursing, Laura exemplifies the vision and purpose of the Winnifred Montgomery Endowed Chair in Aging. She conducts groundbreaking research on aging, dementia care, patient safety, quality improvement, and nursing workforce development in geriatric care settings. Her work and leadership have directly impacted policies and practices in physical restraint and siderail reduction nationally and globally. Laura is a dedicated teacher and mentor who founded and leads the FirstGenRN program. Laura’s innovative approach to education and research made her the ideal choice for this honor.
