Board Updates and Important Information

Dig Smart Before You Start

Call Miss Utility!

Call Miss Utility first (click for link VA811) but it is important to know that some buried infrastructure is considered “private” and will NOT be marked by Miss Utility.

Examples include:

  1. Propane tanks and propane lines (natural gas lines are public; propane lines are private)
  2. Water lines running from the meter to your home (Private)
  3. Sewer discharge lines from your home to the nearest clean-out access (Private)
  4. Lawn irrigation lines, valves, and sprinkler heads (Private)

Additional points to keep in mind:

  • Internet, cable, and fiber optic lines may or may not be marked depending on the provider.
  • Some private lines include tracer wires that can help contractors locate them with proper equipment.
  • Metal pipes and cables are usually easier to detect than buried PVC lines.
  • Contractors are required to hand-dig near marked utilities rather than use heavy excavation equipment.

Before starting any digging project, you or your contractor must contact VA811 (“Miss Utility”) by visiting VA811 or by calling 811 or 800-552-7001. A locator personnel will be dispatched to mark buried public utilities on your property. Once completed, the requestor will receive a Positive Response Code confirming the work and explaining how the utilities were marked.

Before any work begins, walk the property with your contractor and discuss all known utilities. Ask to see the Positive Response Code from the VA811 request, especially if the contractor submitted it on your behalf. In some cases, the office may receive the information, but the crew performing the work may not be aware of the marked locations or restrictions.

Taking a few extra minutes to review utility locations can help prevent costly damage, service interruptions, and safety hazards.

Safety Alert for E-Bikes

Safety Alert – The GCA has been advised of several close calls on roadways and sidewalks with children on e-bikes and e-scooters.

This has included wheelies, jumps, skids and darting in and out of the roadway, often very close to cars and pedestrians.

Note that under Virginia law, the minimum age for solo e-bike or e-scooter operation is 14 which also applies to the Glenmore Community. Anyone under age 14 requires the supervision of someone age 18+.

E-bikes and e-scooters pose risks to riders and bystanders alike when not operated with care. So please use them carefully and follow all applicable laws.

Please also note that e-bikes and e-scooters are not permitted on golf course cart paths at any time, and are not an approved mode of transportation while playing golf.

Flags: Utility companies at times place small colored marker flags throughout the community. If you see them please do not remove them.

Thank you to everyone who is taking the time to come to a complete stop at the stop sign and use turn signals. These small actions make a big difference in keeping our community safe for drivers, pedestrians, children, and neighbors. Your patience, awareness, and courtesy are truly appreciated.

For Your Safety...

Why Didn’t the Gate Open?

Understanding Gatehouse Delays and the Importance of Patience

Gatehouse operations are an important part of keeping a neighborhood safe and secure. While it can sometimes feel frustrating when the gate does not open immediately, there are often simple technical or security-related reasons behind the delay.

When delays occur, it is important to remember that the gatehouse officers are following established security protocols designed to protect the entire community. In most cases, the process only takes two to three minutes. The officers are not trying to inconvenience residents or visitors; they are simply doing their job to ensure that only authorized individuals enter the property.

In many cases, the system may misread a license plate. For example, the number “1” can sometimes be mistaken for the letter “L,” which can prevent the system from recognizing the vehicle correctly. Other times, the license plate may be mounted too high, dirty, damaged, or difficult for the camera to scan.

Another common issue happens when vehicles follow too closely behind another car entering the gate. Security systems are designed to allow one authorized vehicle through at a time. When a second vehicle pulls forward too quickly, the system may stop the gate from opening as a safety and security precaution.

Like any electronic system, gate equipment can also experience occasional technical issues. Cameras, scanners, internet connections, or gate motors may temporarily malfunction. These situations are usually resolved quickly, but they may require the officer on duty to manually verify information before allowing entry. A brief delay is a small price to pay to ensure your security.

Access Control and Safety Report

This is being brought to you for the purpose of acquainting residents with the activities that take place at the Gatehouse and how they are remedied by our Securitas staff.

Gatehouse Incident Report – April 2026

4/28/26 At 16:05, a resident, called the Gatehouse. The Security Staff was informed about two young males soliciting on foot through the neighborhood. GCA Access Control and Safety Committee Chairman checked, but could not find them. No further description or information was obtained. No other complaints recorded.

4/28/26 At 21:13 an unknown person in a red sedan tailgated a resident in a blue sedan going through the resident lane. Plates unreadable at this time.

4/27/26 At 10:32, A security camera identified outside service representative coming into the resident lane. It then backed up and came into the visitor lane. Driver said he was just trying to turn around, but instead of following directions provided by GCA Officer, he continued into the community. License plates have been flagged in the system.

4/25/26 At 13:28 a black sedan tailgated a resident, black van, through the resident gate with no hesitation. Plates unreadable.

4/24/26 At 15:40, A resident connected with the resident gate arm. The gate connected to the bike rack on top of the car. Damage to the vehicle appeared limited to a plastic weather cap off the side of the bike rack. The gate arm will no longer fit together as the plate appears bent. Supervisor Feasey contacted GCA Access Control and Safety Committee Chairman to apprise him of the ongoing situation. The resident lane has been coned off, and level eight has been called. An emergency ticket has been placed.

4/24/26 At 14:26 Officers stopped a male driver. He went into the wrong lane entering Glenmore. When stopped he apologized and said he believed it was the visitor lane as the signage pointed to the left hand lane. He turned around and came through the gate properly. He was visiting without an appointment to tour the clubhouse where he said is hosting an event in the near future. He agreed to reach out through proper channels to schedule the tour.

4/20/26 At 19:55 A male entered the visitor lane. He stated that he was with Ollin Construction going to an appointment with a resident and provided the address. He was informed, and shown the signage, that contractor hours were over and to please turn around and exit. He said "Oh OK Thank You" and proceeded into Glenmore without turning around.

4/16/26 The resident arm dropped to the ground. There was no impact by a vehicle. The arm was replaced but the light strip was damaged.

4/13/26 At 18:32 A resident hit the gate arm. There appears to be no damage to the vehicle. The driver was going to visit a resident. Gate arm restored and functional.

4/12/26 At 21:37:25 a dark grey van approached the Gatehouse down Piper Way in the wrong lane/direction and entered the Resident Form Drop Off Lane into Glenmore without stopping and continued down Piper Way, still traveling in the wrong lane/ direction. Plates unknown at this time pending further investigation.

4/4/26 At 07:47 a sub contractor arrived at the Gatehouse, he was informed that he could not enter for work in the community until 08:00. He was directed to make a U- turn and go and wait in the line with the other contractors. He said “OK” and then proceeded to enter Glenmore without making the U-turn. Make, model and license recorded.
