Dane County added 73,431 people over the past decade, a 15% increase, making it the fastest-growing county in the state, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau Thursday.

Madison’s Lake Monona, contaminated with hazardous “forever chemicals,” is among 92 lakes, rivers and streams added to Wisconsin’s list of polluted waters.The state Department of Natural Resources on Monday released a proposed list of 743 “impaired” waters that cannot support recreation or healthy plant and animal populations, and that contain fish that may be unsafe to eat.

This growing city is well known for its sweet corn festival, an ear-nipping groundhog named Jimmy and Sunday night races around the clay oval of Angell Park Speedway, a tradition here since 1903.
