The hit to businesses such as hotels, taverns, restaurants and theaters from the COVID-19 pandemic has been to more than their bottom lines. The pandemic could also be taking a bite out of some property values.
Even though an end to federal eviction moratoriums is fast approaching, some Dane County residents and families facing possible eviction will likely see emergency relief in coming weeks to help them make rent payments.
As a federal moratorium on evictions is set to expire at the end of this month, Madison and Dane County have a message for financially stressed tenants and landlords: rental assistance is coming.

Since in person classes are more challenging at the present, Madison Ballet is now offering virtual classes via Zoom for its students. The classes offer an opportunity to build skills as well as provide exercise for students who are unable to have regular physical education programs due to COVID.
A Dane County committee rejected on Tuesday a proposal to reduce the number of beds available in the planned addition to the jail. The Public Protection and Judiciary Committee voted againsta resolution that would call on the Sheriff’s Officeto come up with a new design to remove 50 beds from the proposed seven-story addition to the Public Safety Building in Downtown Madison.
The evolving Judge Doyle Square project could see design changes as a developer seeks alterations to the proposed hotel slated for a prime parcel downtown.
