A developer is proposing to demolish an auto repair shop for a $22 million, six-story mixed-use project including lower-cost housing on the Near West Side. MSP Real Estate of Mendota Heights, Minnesota, is looking to raze the Don the Car Care Man auto repair shop and replace it with a building offering 79 apartments, 750 square feet of first-floor commercial space and underground parking for 79 cars and 87 bicycles on a narrow, half-acre lot at 2208 University Ave.

Madison Metro Transit is preparing for its biggest changes in perhaps a quarter-century to cut travel times, boost ridership, better serve disadvantaged communities, add evening and weekend service, and complement a coming $160 million east-west bus rapid transit route.

A conservative law group is challenging a new Madison ordinance requiring “bird-safe” glass in new construction. The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) filed a notice Wednesday on behalf of four real estate, development and construction organizations warning the city that the ordinance runs afoul of state law and is unenforceable.

The evolution of Parmenter Street could be taking another significant step, thanks to one of its oldest businesses. The Bruce Company, known for its landscaping services and robust garden center, has presented plans to the Middleton Plan Commission for a 16-acre project that would construct a new retail store, greenhouse and corporate headquarters and move its field operations to Verona, freeing up acres of land for redevelopment.
