ACS News
Dear Parents,
As a father, I know the importance of becoming aware in the world of technology that my kids are involved in. That includes understanding what is 'out there' that students are encountering. We have hosted nights in the past couple years for parents to learn more, but schedules can be busy and not many people attended. Thus, I want to share a great document that I received which answers a number of questions that parents ask about social media, etc. This comes from an organization called, Protect Young Eyes, which is focused on internet safety. The document is bilingual, so the questions and answers are repeated in both English and Spanish. The questions also have links to important articles to help you take action to protect your own kids.  Click here -> Link

MAP Assessments  (Math, Reading, Language Usage) will be given in the fall (Sep. 17-28) and in the Spring (April 29-May 10) to students in 2nd-8th grade. The assessments provide ACS with progress reports for students, and allow us to define strengths/weaknesses for making instructional decisions. At the end of the year, parents will be sent the assessments scores for their child(ren). Note: please avoid scheduling appointments during these times! Thank you!

Lice Check Now that students are all back together in classrooms, it is good to start the year by doing a quick lice check of your kids. It is also good to do so occasionally throughout the school year.

Bus Z-passes  are required for students who ride either an ACS or APS bus.  Families are responsible for the Z-pass and if the pass is lost there is a $5 replacement cost.   It is important to remember that we will request all families to return their Z-pass at the end of this school year.   This past year many students kept their Z-pass and then couldn't find them in the beginning of the year. APS is very generous in their support of ACS busing, and they have made us aware that they have had numerous complaints from ACS parents about Z-passes. Please help us keep this relationship strong by showing grace to them when you have a question. Thank you!

Allendale Public (and ACS) are looking to add bus drivers to their sub lists. If you have any interest in receiving training and becoming a bus driver in the Allendale system, please contact Brian Koetje at Allendale Public will assist with training to those that are interested in getting their license to drive.

Hey Moms! Did you know we have a Moms in Prayer group in our community? Each week a group of Moms from ACS, APS, and GV gather for one hour to pray for our kids, their teachers, and our schools. We meet right here at Allendale Christian on Thursdays from 8:30-9:30am in the girls locker room. We're going to kick off the year with coffee at Biggby this Thursday, September 13 at 8:30am and then our regular prayer meetings will start next week Thursday September 20. All Moms are welcome ... there's no greater work you can do for your kids than the work of prayer!

From the Community
Second Church Allendale will be hosting a grief support seminar on Sep. 16, 23, and 30 from 5:30-6:30pm. The tragedy of loss affects everybody. We wanted to create a space where we can come together as a community and learn more about what grief is, how grief affects our faith, how to help those who are grieving and some tips on how to help ourselves grieve. Gwen Kapcia from Starlight Ministries has agreed to come in and lead us over the course of three weeks in exploring these topics. Starlight Ministries was founded in 2009 as a place for those who are struggling with grief to find peer-to-peer support. Gwen has a long career in working with the bereaved. Her passion for helping those struggling with loss mixed with a deep passion for sharing her hope in Christ will undoubtedly make these three sessions a helpful and healing time as together we share and connect. There is no cost to attend this event. To learn more, please visit or contact Alex at

Post Family Farm in Hudsonville is looking to hire energetic ADULTS for seasonal work this fall (September and October).  Opportunities include donut making, leading school tour groups and tractor hayride driving.  These opportunities are available from early morning to evening, Monday-Saturday. Donut making involves working with several others in our bakery making donuts, filling orders and running the cash register.  Tour guides take a group of children, teachers and parents around the farm. This does include the pleasure of driving a tractor. All training is provided. After school and festival workers may work in donuts, office, admissions or drive tractor to and from the pumpkin patch.  No previous experience is required for any position.  Work days and hours are very flexible to fit your schedule.  Please contact Julie at Post Family Farm, if you have any interest in working in a fun, farm atmosphere.
