Council Member Narcisse Rallies Against Closure of Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan

Last week, Council Member Mercedes Narcisse stood in solidarity with Council Member Carlina Rivera and other colleagues in government and city residents at the rally against the closure of Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Its closure would lead just one hospital to serve 400,000 residents south of 23rd Street in Manhattan.

"As the Chair of the Council's Committee on Hospitals, I am calling on the governor and state legislators to acknowledge this crisis in our upcoming state budget. We must ensure a stable, equitable healthcare system for all New Yorkers," said Council Member Narcisse while speaking at the rally.

Council Member Narcisse Brings Together Community Stakeholders for a Presentation on City of Yes

Council Member Mercedes Narcisse hosted an informative meeting with community leaders and stakeholders, focusing on the Mayor Adams’ 'City of Yes' plan. Officials from the Department of City Planning (DCP), provided a detailed presentation on the Mayor’s significant proposal.

"As we examine this very complex initiative, our foremost priority is clear. We must ensure that any proposal implemented works to the benefit of the people of District 46 and does not negatively impact their quality of life. It's crucial that our district's unique needs and concerns are at the forefront of any urban development plans," said Council Member Narcisse. "This meeting was a important first step in ensuring our community's voice is heard and considered in shaping the future of housing and economic development in our neighborhoods and city."

Council Member Mercedes Narcisse is happy to share an amazing resource for our teenagers – NYC Teenspace. School stress, relationships, friend drama and teen life can be a lot. So, through this new program, New York City is stepping up to give city teens ages 13 to 17 access to a Talkspace therapist, mental health resources and more, at no cost.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Your teen visits talkspace.com/nyc and enters their birthdate and address to qualify.
  • They answer a few questions about themselves and their preferences for therapy.
  • They'll enter a parent or guardian's email address and you will be emailed to provide consent.
  • Teens are typically matched with a therapist within 24 hours, based on factors such as what they're struggling with and therapist specialty.
  • Your teen can have one live video session per month and unlimited messaging therapy. Therapists generally respond every day, five days per week.
  • Your teen will also have access to online mental health exercises and interactive courses through the Talkspace Go app.
