Backpack Feeding Program to Help Newport Students Is FULLY FUNDED! Plus information on Adopt A Family Program and upcoming events.
Backpack Feeding Program at Pell Elementary School Fully Funded for 2018/19 School Year
With some grant funding and mostly private donations, the Backpack Feeding Program at Pell Elementary School in Newport, RI, managed by Newport Family and Child Opportunity Zone, a division of East Bay Community Action Program , is fully funded to serve 150 students per week for 32 weeks, starting November 2, and 100 students each week next summer! This program provides students weekly with a bag of child-friendly (easy to prepare) meals and snacks so they won't go hungry on weekends. More than $37,000 was raised, beginning at EBCAP's Seaside Gala in June through the Fund A Need paddle raise (photo at right, credit: Caroline Goddard, Hope State Style).
