Letter from the President
On March 1, 2023, we celebrated the 32nd anniversary of the Walk-In Dinner Program.
On that date in 1991, Family Promise (then the IRF) began providing free hot dinners in Hackensack to anyone in the community who needed one. For 19 years, we distributed dinners from four different locations, moving from place to place. And we never missed a meal.

Thank you to all of our food providers, volunteers, and donors over the past 32 years!

Years of Persistence Finally Pay Off
Sometimes, success takes time. And so it was for Paula*, a mother who, with her two children, experienced homelessness back in 2013. Hardworking and tenacious, the young mother applied for many better paying jobs only to be turned down when the results of the background check were reviewed. Long before she started a family, Paula was convicted on a drug charge that followed her throughout her life.

Unexpected Donation
Family Promise is blessed to have many dedicated supporters, some big, some small. Some, like the gentleman in the story below, want to remain anonymous.
One evening this month, a nicely dressed gentleman in his late twenties arrived at the loading dock of the Walk-in Dinner on foot.
