Letter from the President

In late February, the New York Times issued a report entitled “A Life Without a Home: Voices from the Tents, Shelters, Cars, Motels, and Couches of America.” The article addressed this issue by listening to families and individuals who are homeless . . . and it is NOT just those we see sleeping on the streets or in parks. Most of us are unaware of who might be homeless, because, to many, it appears that they have a “home.” Not so.

The Comforts of Home

Family Promise welcomed a new family into the New Leaf Program this month, offering our largest transitional apartment to a mom, dad, and their three children as they work toward their goals and dreams. Time in New Leaf provides an opportunity for stability and breathing space.

Lace up your sneakers—it’s time for the Hike for Hope!

Spring is in the air, which means that the Family Promise Hike for Hope is just around the corner! Join us on Sunday, May 5th at Van Neste Square Memorial Park in Ridgewood for a three-mile walk through town in support of the working families experiencing homelessness that Family Promise of Bergen County serves.

Family Promise of Bergen County’s newest board member admits that she began volunteering with the organization partly for selfish reasons.

After giving birth to the last of her five children, Alina Albano wanted to get out of the house a bit and use her talents and skills to help others.

Please join us on Monday, June 3rd at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale for a wonderful afternoon featuring 18 holes of golf, lunch, premium refreshments served on the course, contests, a fabulous silent auction, plus some exciting surprises to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the event.
