Letter from the President

The solution to homelessness is to provide adequate access to affordable housing. While we can agree with that, it doesn’t take long to realize that solving this issue is incredibly complex. And there are factors at play today that are making this even more difficult to address.

Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night…

When the weather forecast called for thunderstorms on Monday July 18th, none of us expected the kind of flooding we saw all around Bergen County. Initially no one was worried about the Walk-In Dinner Program. But the weather –and the road conditions- deteriorated rapidly. Team Leader Brett Norton called to say he wasn’t sure he could make it to the shelter to distribute meals.

The Walk-in Dinner Program, traditionally serving homeless individuals, is serving a growing number of families in need of meals each day.
Family Promise Annual Gala: Save the Date!

The Family Promise Annual Gala: Many Roads Lead Home will be held on Thursday, October 20 at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale. Please join us for a fabulous evening featuring an inspiring program, silent auction, our famous wine pull, cocktails, dinner, and more. All proceeds from the Gala will benefit Family Promise’s shelter and support programs for working families experiencing homelessness in Bergen County.

A Heartfelt Farewell to Renee Harper

We bid a very heartfelt farewell to Family Promise Office Administrator Renee Harper, who is leaving with plans to relocate out of the area.
Starting out as a volunteer, Renee quickly took on more responsibility.

Family Highlights

  • SB has increased her credit score from 390 to 630 in under two years!

  • Family Promise continues to provide working families with rental assistance when eligible, thereby preventing imminent homelessness.

Golf Outing 2022: A Spectacular Day!

The 23rd Annual Family Promise Golf Outing was held on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Edgewood Country Club in River Vale—and we could not have asked for a more beautiful day! Over 100 guests enjoyed a sunny afternoon featuring 18 holes of golf, a silent auction, skill contests, lunch, cocktail hour, dinner, and more.

Having reliable transportation can be a game-changer for a formerly homeless family. If you have a car that you no longer use and is in good working order, please consider donating it to Family Promise.
