Spring is finally here!
May/June 2022
Happy Spring, Everyone

Flowers and trees are blossoming and everywhere one looks there are signs of new growth. At Family Promise we are no different.
We have expanded our small but mighty staff with the addition of our new Family Case Manager Denise Martino, Accountant Fran Robertson, and Director of Development Marie Caliendo who you will learn more about in an article below.

Plastic Bag Ban

See how the plastic bag ban is impacting the Family Promise Walk-in Dinner and our ability to feed some of the most vulnerable in Bergen County.

Bread is Love Made Visible

“Today we witnessed the cooperation of nonprofit organizations and the business community to produce an effect greater than the sum of our parts,” said Kate Duggan, Family Promise Executive Director “and it all started with bread and kindness.”

Walk-In Dinner Program Anniversary

It’s time to celebrate an anniversary. While we have served dinners for over 30 years in our Walk-In Dinner program (over 1.25 million meals!), this pandemic caused us to “spin on a dime” to address a new “normal.” And we DID spin. And now we have a new anniversary to celebrate—a new Two-Year Anniversary.

Camp Lots of Fun

Calling all high school students! What will you be doing the last two weeks of August? Camp Lots of Fun will again take place the last two full weeks of August (8/15 – 19 and 8/22 – 26). Children in our program wait all year for this end of summer camp experience when they can play, relax, learn, and just be kids!

Family Promise of Bergen County event
Golf Outing

Please join us on Monday, June 6 as we return to the beautiful Edgewood Country Club in River Vale for the 23rd Annual Family Promise Golf Outing! Guests will enjoy 18 holes of golf, premium liquor tastings and refreshments served on the course, a Hole in One contest, and an auction featuring outings to some of the area’s best courses.

The Nancy Woods Memorial
Peace Site Gazebo

March 12, 2022 was a cold and snowy Saturday. We laughed, knowing that Nancy Woods would have been glad if the bad weather kept the attendance down at the Gazebo dedication taking place that day in Demarest. As Executive Director Kate Duggan pointed out that afternoon, “Nancy hated the spotlight and being fussed over.”
Of course, despite the weather, the crowd came out for Nancy!

Introducing Marie Caliendo, Director of Development

Marie Caliendo, the new Director of Development for Family Promise of Bergen County, is struck by one difference about homelessness on this side of the Passaic River.
In Paterson, where she worked as Director of Philanthropy at Eva’s Village, homelessness was often out in the open. “We had people living under the I-80 overpass,’’ she says.

Hike for Hope 2022 was a Success!

The Family Promise Hike for Hope: Home Edition culminated on Sunday, May 1, and we are in awe of the overwhelming support of our incredible Hikers, friends, and sponsors! While the event was virtual once again, that did not stop 151 participants and 17 teams from lacing up their sneakers and embarking on a three-mile “hike from home.”
