Reflections on a Disaster

I have never even come close to being part of a disaster. Besides a little water in the basement, the flooding from Hurricane Ida did not affect me. I was however, a witness to Ida’s destruction of property and the complete disruption of the lives of families.
Family Promise Has Boots on the Ground

Hurricane Ida hit Englewood and the rest of Bergen County on Wednesday evening. Thursday morning, Councilman Wayne Hamer was on the phone with Board President, Paul Shackford asking for meals. The area north of Demarest Avenue, where Family Promise had distributed 46,000 meals at the beginning of COVID, was especially hard hit by the storm. Family Promise responded immediately.

Annual Gala Update

As of now, we are still planning to hold our Gala in-person. However, due to our original venue’s policies in relation to COVID-19, we have made the decision to switch locations with the safety of our guests, volunteers, and staff our top priority. The Family Promise Annual Gala will now be held at Seasons in Washington Township on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 6 PM.

Spotlight on St. Catharine Church:
Going Above and Beyond

Family Promise is fortunate to have known strong and consistent support from the faith community in Bergen County for over three decades. One standout, however, is St. Catharine Church in Glen Rock.

Looking for Affordable Housing for Families

Even with all of the positive changes that families experience when they are in our programs, finding affordable housing in good neighborhoods can still be a challenge. The lack of affordable housing was already an issue throughout the country before the pandemic. Additional affordable units were impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Ida.

Calling all landlords: If you or someone you know have an apartment that you would consider renting to a Family Promise graduate please let us know. We will add you to our list of landlords and reach out to you when a family graduates from one of our programs.
Good Luck Kevin

It is with extremely mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Kevin Feola, our helper and friend from the Walk-in Dinner. As everyone who volunteered with the dinner program knows, Kevin, an employee of Friendship House, was an invaluable help to us since the beginning of COVID.  Working seven days a week even during those uncertain times, Kevin never hesitated to lend a hand and just like the dinner program, with no questions asked. We will miss Kevin’s friendly smile, honest observations, and loyalty to his Los Angeles Chargers.
Good luck Kevin. Come back and visit anytime.
Family Promise of Beregen County car donation
Sometimes a Car Is More Than Just a Car!

Thanks to a generous donation, Family Promise was able to provide Zoey and Angel, one of our Network families, with a car! Like many of our families, Zoey's is resourceful, resilient, and adaptive. She has managed without the use of her own car thus far, but now that Zoey has a car, she truly is thriving.

Summer has come to an end, which means that another year of Camp Lots-of-Fun is in the books! We’re happy to report that our annual two-week summer day camp for the children in the Family Promise programs was yet again a success.
