At Family Promise, we have two small cowbells on top of the college size refrigerator out in the hallway. Leftover from a past event, these bells sat unused in a cabinet until we realized that the incremental changes we were fostering in the families in our programs and the meals we were providing daily at the Walk-in Dinner deserved recognition.


The USDA estimates that in 2023, over 34 million Americans, including 12 million children, won’t know where their next meal will come from.
Temple Israel Delivers a Christmas Blessing

Family Promise is incredibly fortunate to have many supporters and friends, and Temple Israel of Ridgewood has been counted among them for many years. This past Christmas of 2022, the Temple was asked if they could “help” provide the meal at the Walk-in Dinner. Not only was the answer a resounding “YES” but the synagogue stepped up and both cooked and donated the entire meal themselves!

Reliable transportation is a necessity for all of us, but can be life changing for a formerly homeless family. This was recently the case for one of our families, a mother with two young children ages 5 and 3. Dominique was spending approximately $400 a week on Uber just to get the kids to school and day care and herself to work!

Hackensack Golf Club Meets an Urgent Need
 
In December 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Norm Forsyth of the Hackensack Golf Club became aware of the Family Promise Walk-in Dinner Program. The club had some extra food at that time that they wanted to donate. Upon learning about the daily need for meals in the community, the club quickly signed up as a regular food provider.
