September/October 2022
Letter from Kate

September is back to school month. It is also Hunger Awareness Month. And although families are still becoming homeless, or terrifyingly close to it, hunger is an issue that has become more prevalent and more apparent since the beginning of the pandemic.

Please join us at The Family Promise Annual Gala: Many Roads Lead Home

The Family Promise Annual Gala is quickly approaching! Please join us on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, NJ for a spectacular night in support of Family Promise. The evening will feature an inspiring program, cocktail hour with live music, silent auction, wine pull, sit-down dinner, and more.

Camp Lots-of-Fun was LOTS OF FUN!
This summer was a particularly special year for Family Promise’s two-week day camp, as many of the restrictions put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic were lifted. We’re happy to report that for the first time since 2019, we welcomed back boys and girls from the Center for Hope and Safety and new this year from the Bergen County HEARTS Program...

1 in 9 people in Bergen County do not have access to adequate nutritious food. 1/3 of them are children.
Welcome Ann Marie McCann to the Board of Trustees
No one gets nostalgic about a homeless shelter. Still, Ann Marie McCann has her memories. The shelter in question was housed, for four weeks a year, in a former convent building on the campus of her parish church, St. Catharine’s in Glen Rock.

Rental Assistance Program Provides “Breathing Space”
In 2020, as the pandemic closed our sheltering network, Family Promise made a commitment to a new Rental Assistance Program. This program of homeless prevention is continuing today and is geared to helping families who would otherwise be at risk of losing their housing.

First Meeting of Youth Council
The Family Promise Youth Council is looking forward to another exciting year of service and friendship. Our first meeting will be held on September 20th at 7pm at the Central Unitarian Church in Paramus. All high school students in Bergen County interested in learning more about the Youth Council's mission and volunteering opportunities
are encouraged to attend. Please email Alina Albano at familypromiseyouthcouncil@gmail.com if you plan on attending or have any questions.

Having reliable transportation can be a game-changer for a formerly homeless family. If you have a car that you no longer use and is in good working order, please consider donating it to Family Promise.
